I started watching Guiding Light when I was in 8th grade. Around 1980, maybe 81.
I love that I can pick it up and watch years later and pretty much still know what is going on. I hadn't watched in probably 10 years and when my MIL was here at Easter she watched it and I was happy to see that Josh and Reva were still in the story.
I am really sad to hear it is going off the air.

I also used to watch Passions, what a weird show. I didn't watch it religiously, maybe once a week if that much.

Kayla Brady! I watched Days of Our Lives from the late 70's to the early 90's. Haven't seen it in over 10 years so I have no idea who is even still on it.

I started watching GL in the early 80's too. I loved Josh and Reva along with their many issues. My next favorite character was Annabelle Reardon who had a ghost haunting her house and how she unravelled the mystery to it. Also the Barbados story line... that was an interesting one too.

Does anyone remember the short lived soap: Capitol? I loved that one!

OK. I'm really telling my age here. The only soap opera I was ever interested in was "Dark Shadows". It used to come on every day after school was out. I loved it!

I've never liked the other soap operas and could never get interested in them. Still don't like them.

Ohhh I love Dark Shadows, both the old one from the 70s and the newer one from the late 80s early 90s, not really sure when it was on. Chiller will show a bunch of the episodes over the weekend sometimes and i sit and waste way too much time watching.

I had taken up cross stitching and would watch a game show at 10 and then not want to get up to change the channel (before remotes) and would leave the TV on and that's when I became hooked on Ryan's Hope. This was the only daytime soap that I watched.
Of course, Dallas and Knott's Landing were considered nighttime soaps. I always watched Dallas but no Knott's Landing. Don't know why but I just never got interested in it.
Oh and Falcon Crest, never watched it but it was quite popular also.

I loved Dark Shadows. I would run home from school in 6th grade ( around 1969) so I could watch it at 3:00. I was so in love with David Selby who played Quinten Collins. I would watch All My Children with my mom but when they killed of Trish??? we never watched again. She said she was the only nice person on the show and they had to kill her off. lol

I used to watch a couple of them with my MIL, and then watched them myself for a couple years. It has been so long now that I don't even remember which ones it was! But I absolutely LOVED Dark Shadows. I was the youngest and both my sisters had already gone to college and my parents both worked outta the home. I would get off the bus, run up the hill, turn on the TV and back up in the corner under the edge of our old hi-backed piano to watch DS. I absolutely loved it and it scared the willies outta me at the same time.

I have watched Guiding Light as long as I can remember. I watched it as a little girl with my great grandmother. She would make tea and we would share a cup with her good china while watching GL. I am so sad that it may be ending in the fall. I am hoping that some of the gossip about it finding a new home are true.
My daughter and I watched the Dark Shadows (the newer version) marathon last weekend. I did watch some of the original years ago. I always thought it was strange that it was supposed to take place in Maine. Many of the actors had british accents. Didn't notice any downeast accents. My daughter thought it was cool that it took place in Maine, she is a huge Ghost/vampire fan!

I forgot about The Doctors and Dark Shadows-watched them too. Dark Shadows is hilarious to watch now because of the horrible camera work, etc... but I loved it!

I watched only General Hospital and The Young and the Restless as a young teenager, but I have not watched any soaps since late 1980's.

General Hospital, in particular, began the careers of many big names, like
Rick Springfield (Dr. Noah Drake)
Demi Moore (Jackie Templeton)
John Stamos (Blackie)

Do soap stars have major plastic surgery? The ones I have seen pictures of look exactly the same as they did 20-25 years ago. We age, but they don't seem to..............so not right!

John Stamos is a big name? LOL! The only thing I've ever seen him in is that really cheesy one with the Olsen twins when they were toddlers.

Yes, he was on Full House and I believe he was later on ER.
Not a huge star, but I think most know his name, or who he is.

Sorry, I wasn't LOLing at you. I was LOLing at him. He always seemed overly impressed with himself whenever I saw him on a talk show or something like that.

I have not watched them in years; I just don't have the patience for them anymore. But I remember, about 10 years ago, when I was pregnant, and even after I had the baby, I watched The Bold and the Beautiful for an hour, followed by Another World for 30 mins. Does that sound right? I just remember Amber. It has been a long time.

Momziller...my Mom used to watch Secret Storm, I still remember the beginning with the big wave!!! I am an All My Children fan, have been watching since I was 11...I'm 48 now. I bought a Betamax(remember those!!) in 1980 for $500 (saved forever!)just so I could tape AMC! I have been watching it daily since. I often wonder why though, sometimes these soaps are just soooo ridiculous.
