SOOOOOO Frustrated today

In the field that I work in, I get the opportunity to travel to conferences and give talks. They pay GREAT!! This past weekend, Sunday I left to go to a conference and talk. It paid 2000.00 for an hour and a half talk!
I got in late last night, around Midnight, and had to wait at the airport for DH to come get me... Waited an HOUR!! (He was on the lake fishing with friends and lost track of time) Ok fine..
Then I walked in the door to our house and was amazed to find that not ONE THING had been picked up, cleaned up or moved since I left. There were still dishes with food in them on our bar that had been there sunday morning when I left... The sink piled high with dishes and blankets all over the place from where he slept. (There is no AC in the bedroom so he sleeps on the couch at times...) Not one piece of clothing put away or washed..
I am so irritated right now.. It seems that I was doing something for US and made more work for me!!

I'm amazed that you expect anyone to believe that you make $2000 for giving hour and a half long speeches when your communication skills are on a grade school level. In addition to the MULTIPLE mistakes in your post, the word 'Sunday' is ALWAYS capitalized and the word 'midnight' isn't. It's really not necessary to use two and three periods after your sentences, either. One will do. LOL.

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed or something???? How OP writes their post has nothing to do with how well they may or may not communicate verbally. Have some coffee and take a chill pill.

OP, sounds pretty typical to me, although I am sorry it ticked you off. After traveling and working on a weekend, I too would want to come home to something at least somewhat picked up.

Believe me or not Opal, I do make that and did make that this past weekend.
Perhaps you need to stick to something that you at least know a little about....

Been there done that. Not as much now that the kids are older, but I think DH would leave his underwear on the floor next to his bed piled up for a month if I let him. Now don't get me wrong, *I* don't pick it up for him, but he sure hears it if it sits there more than one day.

I'm not a clean freak, but certain things crawl up my spine. Clothing on the floor, and dishes in the sink are my two worst.

I feel your pain. On the other hand, DH used to wait until I went out of town to "purge" things around the house without asking me if it was important or not. Not cool.

So, just curious, what do you speak on at these conferences?

Red face

Dannic I too would be very upset if I left and came back and found the house in upset. However for me I live with a husband who is extremely neat so that would not be a problem here. However for some husbands I can at least expect to do some cleaning especially the dishes. So sorry you took advantage of a opportunity to make money for your family and things turned out this way. Try to have a better day. Peace. Catherine

Sorry you came home to a mess. That would totally irk me. Fortunately, DH is a very tidy guy -- almost OCD in his habits so he's not my problem. My kids, however, are slobs. They will do a chore when I tell them to and they will put things away when I tell them to but if left to their own devices, they would live in a pile of garbage, dirty dishes and stinky clothes, I'm certain.

I really truly think men don't notice messes or dirty things. For $2000 for an hour and a half talk, could you hire someone to clean up while you are away for those talks? Would make things easier all around.

My sister does the same type thing. She goes all over talking about the meds for reumatoide arthritis. She makes anywhere from 1,500 to 2,500 for the 1-3 hr talks. Plus they pay her travel expenses. But she dont have to worry about her place being a mess when she gets back cause she is single. I would probably leave everything were it is and tell him to deal with it. That would drive me nuts!

Thank God my husband is not the only one. I purposely clean before I leave so I won't come home to a mess and lo and behold....a mess awaits every time.

I swear part of it is the male shoulder dysfunction syndrome. You know it's that ailness that prevents them from putting dishes in the dishwasher, clothes in the hamper, things away, etc due to their inbred shoulder injury. It prevents them from reaching that last few inches and apparantly at this moment something strikes their legs because they are rendered unable to move the few inches to make up for the shoulder disorder.

Sigh I guess I have resigned myself to this one. He could have a lot worse habits!

If I made $2000 for an hour and a half, I seriously would have someone come in and clean for me. Then when you return, you wouldn't have to come home to a messy house.

A lot of men actually don't 'see' the mess as we see it.

Well don't clean up after them or you are enabling them. I'd go on strike until it's cleaned up.

Ditto! I never had a problem with me doing all the laundry, but my rule was that if it isn't in the laundry hamper, it doesn't get washed. My daughter even learned this one pretty quick, I didn't do emergency laundry cause she left something in her floor a week then wanted it immediately. I woudln't hire someone to clean up after them either, kinda defeats the purpose of making that kinda money to pay for clean up cause the rest of the family is lazy.

cjs216, could you send me a 55 gallon drum of those chill pills, I NEED them!!

I totally feel your pain. I have been working two jobs for a while now. Thankfully, after a LOT of fussing, yelling, tears, and complaining, DH and our boys have finally stepped-up to the plate. They were just spoiled for so many years, with me being a SAHM. Things finally came to a head one day in our household, and I, being totally exhausted, lost my sh*t w/ DH. I am glad that happened. For the first time in a long time, I feel like we're at a 50/50 relationship regarding the kids, the bills getting paid, and the household work, instead of it being 95/5. While I am so glad I was able to stay home with them all these years, I just wonder how things would have played out differently, had I found a way to work outside the home. Crack that whip girl! Don't hire a cleaning lady.
