Weinstein and Pelosi talked on the phone late last month, the sources said.

The three officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk publicly about the conversation.

They said Weinstein, a top supporter of Clinton's presidential campaign, appeared determined to buy Clinton more time in her battle against Sen. Barack Obama by pushing for the revote. He was also pressing Pelosi to back off her previous comments that superdelegates should support the candidate who's leading in pledged delegates in early June, the sources said.

Weinstein, a co-founder of Miramax Films who now runs the Weinstein Company, called CNN Thursday to vehemently deny that he issued any threats. "Never, ever was the thought about denying funding to Democrats," he said.

Weinstein said the phone call focused on his offer to put together a team of people to help finance a revote in Florida and Michigan. Another person familiar with the phone call said what might have upset Pelosi is that Weinstein also suggested that if Democratic leaders "did not fix" the Florida and Michigan problem, powerful Democrats may abandon the eventual party nominee in favor of Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, in November.

I read about this a week or so ago and it was insinuated then that "threats" were made. I get the impression that Speaker Pelosi told him to stick it in his ear. Which "powerful" democrats is he referring to that will abandon the nominee? The Clintons?? good riddance at this point IMO.

I just hope Senator Obama doesn't make the mistake of "giving" her the Florida and Michigan delegates as has been hinted at in the last few days. She's likely to take Kentucky and West Virginia and Montana and South Dakota are toss-ups. Think Oregon will go with Senator Obama but I don't think that's a sure thing yet. If he gives her Florida and Michigan she might be able to overtake him.

I don't think that Howard Dean is going to back down. It's just way too late for a rule change. Michigan can thank Carl Levin for their votes not counting. Florida can thank their legislature.

On the bright side, nobody has called in to Washington Journal (CSPAN) in at least 2 weeks claiming that Obama is a Muslim! Someone did call in and say that Rev. Wright was a Muslim today (?).
