Looks like I'm not alone...

I stated in another thread that none of the candidates running on the republican side of this election are exciting to me... I would love a candidate that would make me want to take some vacation time and volunteer to knock on doors or stuff envelopes but there just is nothing there for me.

G.O.P. Voters Are Uninspired by Candidates - New York Times

It really looks like I'm not alone. I remember my mom doing volunteer work for Reagan and I look forward to having somebody that I'm really intensely in favor of winning the nomination that would cause me to do the same. Not going to happen in this cycle.

Looks like another election that I'll be faced with just pulling the lever for the republican candidate. Why? just because at least I'm sure the platform that will come out of their convention will be more palatable than what the dems will be bringing to the table -- where is somebody of the caliber of Truman or Kennedy? Yeah, that was John not Teddy

I would vote for a third party that truly represents my views but that would only help to elect somebody even farther away from my views -- the curse of our two party system.

Who could you get behind? Who would you like to see in the race?

I'm having trouble getting enthused over any Republican Candidate as well... I remember working by tail off in 1992 for George Bush as a college senior.

I think the saddest thing is of the millions of people in the US is if that the 10 top candidates (5 on each side) are the best our country has to offer we are in a sad, sad place.

I'm sorry you all are having trouble getting behind a republican candidate. As another poster asked, what is it you all are looking for that your candidates aren't offering? Who would you like to see run that isn't?

Just heard that Senator Lieberman will be throwing his support to Senator McCain tomorrow -- there's a ticket for you.

So far, I'm leaning towards Ron Paul. He is for keeping the US out of overseas stuff.

I like Ron Paul on the war stuff, but he loses me completely on abortion rights.

I also think that Ron Paul has said some very racists stands in the past. He attributes his statements to having used a ghost writer. However, a ghost writer only writes content that they are told to write.

I was reading about it just today . . . the source I read said that he did take responsibility for that crap being written on his watch, but that the style of writing was very different from Paul's. Of course, if you're trying to hide, that's what you'd do, too.

Oh, yeah, just realized, that I read it on wikipedia, so that all that with a grain of salt!

Here's an article which addresses the statements he made in newsletters sent out to his supporters.
American Thinker: The Ron Paul Campaign and its Neo-Nazi Supporters

Another article that I ran across addresses his monetary and internet support. Yikes! Skinheads and truthers: American Thinker: The Ron Paul Campaign and its Neo-Nazi Supporters

On Ron Paul's abortion stance, he is actually in favor of leaving it up to the states and voters to decide. He feels this way on most major issues as well.

Donation

Forgot to mention regarding the donation from the white supremists leader.

If a $500 donation from a person like that makes or breaks you as far as voting for Dr. Paul, why not look into many OTHER candidates on BOTH sides that take massive donations from special interest groups. We're talking MILLIONS here, not just hundreds of dollars.

Ron Paul raised $4 million and $6 million from his supporters, NOT interest groups in ONE DAY! I'll take Dr. Paul over those "other" candidates any day!

Taking money from insurance companies and then promising to help people without insurance, well that's the issue we SHOULD be talking about

The right of an innocent, unborn child to life is at the heart of the American ideals of liberty. My professional and legislative record demonstrates my strong commitment to this pro-life principle.

In 40 years of medical practice, I never once considered performing an abortion, nor did I ever find abortion necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman.

In Congress, I have authored legislation that seeks to define life as beginning at conception, HR 1094.

I am also the prime sponsor of HR 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life. This is a practical, direct approach to ending federal court tyranny which threatens our constitutional republic and has caused the deaths of 45 million of the unborn.

I have also authored HR 1095, which prevents federal funds to be used for so-called “population control.”

Many talk about being pro-life. I have taken direct action to restore protection for the unborn.

As an OB/GYN doctor, I’ve delivered over 4,000 babies. That experience has made me an unshakable foe of abortion. Many of you may have read my book, Challenge To Liberty, which champions the idea that there cannot be liberty in a society unless the rights of all innocents are protected. Much can be understood about the civility of a society in observing its regard for the dignity of human life.
That's not states' rights. That's anti-choice, right down the line.
