Would you vote for an unmarried or divorced President?

Would their marital status play into your decision of whether or not to vote for someone??

I don't think I would factor their marital status or other "marital happenings" in to my vote. Unless, of course, we are talking about spousal abuse, and honestly, I think once that was discovered, your chances of getting elected would seriously diminish.

I agree. I don't think it would make a difference unless there is abuse. Maybe if they married several times, I may look at that as an inability to make up their mind or 'staying power

I guess if they were married a million times, or if they were known to have a gazillion public affairs then I would really have to think on it.....Obviously like allinaugust said, if spousal abouse were in the picture they wouldn't even be in the running anymore

Other than Guiliani, I don't see the fact that they were divorced as a factor. Guiliani though and his using tax dollars for his mistress makes him a non starter from where I am sitting.

Hmmm.. I think principles begin at home.
If a candidate has problems working out situations at home, or worse, just gives up, then how can we depend on them to run our country?

It depends on the circumstances. I don't like how Giuliani handled his affairs, and I would factor that in. I don't like how Newt Gingrich handled announcing his divorce to his wife and I would factor that in.

But by and large, divorce happens. So, so unless someone completely mucks it up, like Giuliani and Gingrich, I don't care. The one exception is if the reason for the divorce is intolerable, like abuse.

Wow. I don't think that should enter into play at all. It doesn't matter. I guess some people think you are "more together" if you're married or have a long-lasting marriage. That's a crock! I was in a rotten marriage for 23 years, was so much more stable and responsible when I was single, and being divorced sure didn't influence my ability to lead others. Of course, I'm just a teacher...not the president! HA HA!

If Hillary divorced Bill, would that be a good thing for her? Given help he has been providing to her over the past couple of weeks, announcing a divorce with the crazy former prez might actually help her I'm sure Obama loves it every time Bill opens his mouth to spout more stupidity.

You are right..actually Reagan was the only divorced president

Presidential Trivia

"James Buchanan was the only president never to marry. Five presidents remarried after the death of their first wives—two of whom, Tyler and Wilson, remarried while in the White House. Reagan was the only divorced president. Six presidents had no children. Tyler—father of fifteen—had the most."
