US Foreign policy

History of U.S. Military Interventions since 1890
"The media has told us repeatedly that some Middle Easterners hate the U.S. only because of our "freedom" and "prosperity." Missing from this explanation is the historical context of the U.S. role in the Middle East, and for that matter in the rest of the world. This basic primer is an attempt to brief readers who have not closely followed the history of U.S. foreign or military affairs, and are perhaps unaware of the background of U.S. military interventions abroad, but are concerned about the direction of our country toward a new war in the name of "freedom" and "protecting civilians."

Dr. Zoltan Grossman

I ran across this information doing some research. I do not know much about Zoltán Grossman. Goggle search brings up alot more of his current writings, especially about Iran.

You can't expect anything else from her.

What you have here is a list of the times we have used military force. US intervention in the Middle East is more involved that what is shown here. Eisenhower, for instance, had the CIA overthrow the democratically elected government in Iran on behalf of BP. (We do that every time Haiti has an election too) We installed the Shah who turned out to be a brute. People have a tendency to turn to the most fundamental of religions during dire times. It's understandable that a theocracy rose in Iran.

I kind of think that what goes around comes around.

I agree with you totally. They don't hate us for our "freedoms" or our way of life. (hard to believe anyone bought that one) It's our policies.

But , don't worry, Lynne Cheney has been editing our history books.

Good to see that you weren't subjected to any of that education, like history or grammar or spelling. Keep up the good work of demonstrating the clear superiority of the American education system! Brava, sister! I just love to read the stuff you write. Better than watching the test signal on the television and nearly as educational.

I have a son who has been deployed and will be again by the end of the week. What exactly do you think is "gibberish" in the OP? I would be interested in knowing or do you just like to see your "thoughts" on the screen?

Do you mean to say that only mothers/fathers who have sons/daughters who are in the military can have an opinion re:the Middle East foreign policy?

I would just like a dollar for every time you have asked someone on these boards whether they have ever had a son in harms way. I bet I could have a nice dinner out.

Terrorists will only win if we do not change our foreign policy.
Do you really want to go to war with Iran?? Because that is what is coming..if we continue messing in other countries.

Our foreign policy is what is speading hate. This is what is term "unintended consequences". What we start out to do just causes "blowback".

Speaking out against the ideas is not being unamerica...I do support the troops.
And by the way I do have family/friends that are serving in miltary..as I am sure most everyone does.

Well maybe you should both stop reading these posts if it upsets you so much. I guess I should ask, can your bambino read yet? The only hate I see on these boards is more often than not, relayed by you. So take a deep breath and try to have a nice day. Anyone with as much venom as you needs to get a little rest now and then.

Wow, my marine son would just about poke his eyes out with a butter knife than read one of his mothers coupon boards. And he would also laugh himself silly if I described anyone as proper traditional.

PUM, if all you see is hate hate hate, I have to ask the question, why do you stick around? I am smart enough to know that if that is all I saw or read here, I would find a board that was more in the lines with my political views and lifestyle. Do they have a board somewhere with people posting with your views? You could be so much happier.

It is the thought that this is God's will that we are in Iraq, that this is a war about religion that causes me pause. I never thought of my son fighting in this war as "God will". I thought that God was about peace and love.

I've never watched that. Does lil bush drink on there like in real life? Or does he just bumble around and make constant gramatical errors, not to mention errors in judgment?

Yes, her bambinos can read. In fact, she homeschooled them until they got to high school. Strangely, in another post she forgot what homeschooling is.
Then one was a quarterback, the gals all flocked to him.
She said in another post that one wears a uniform, (camo)
And now, as you see, they both have now served, so it appears they both have got out of the military.

Fun reading.

First of all, this is a good subject and I apologize for helping derail it.
On to the topic at hand:

Personally, I never believed that reason. I thought it was too simplistic.
I perused the site, and the table outlining incidents and our (military) actions. It's quite alarming and were I another country or member of another country I would most likely be upset too.
A lot of the problems run deep and I think sometimes we are seen as an unfair aggressor.
However, I believe, or like to believe, that most of our actions in many of the cases are with good intent.

But yes, the "freedom" and "prosperity" reasoning never quite rang true (for me).

Thanks for the link. I bookmarked it and will read the contents more thoroughly when I have more time.

Well since bambinos are small children or babies, I wasn't sure about the reading part. Still not totally convinced that they can read. Particularly since she homeschooled them.

A uniform could be almost anything. MacDonalds workers wear uniforms, nurses wear uniforms, not to mention Chuck E Cheese, etc.

"Served" could be applied to a waiter or waitress, flight attendant, bartender, sales clerk, and so on.

She does amuse me but I also feel bad that she appears to need medication. And I hope she hasn't noticed that we don't seem to be "shutting up." But then according to the "PUM" rules, I don't have to shut up because my son "served".

I too apologize OP for the digressions. I have it bookmarked. It could not have been more timely. My husband and I were just discussing this topic yesterday morning and he and I will both be reading this. And I was wrong, and he was right. Not something I find cause to admit very often...lol..

PUM rules!! too funny. I'm wondering whether the bambinos are named Larry. Channelling the old Bob Newhart show, "Hi, my name is Larry and this is my brother Larry and this is my other brother Larry"

I'll add my apologies to the original OP. What started out to be a thoughtful thread was PUM'd.

Sorry but it goes, "My name is Daryl. This is my brother Larry and this is my other brother Larry." No matter how often they did that I laughed. And PUM'd makes me laugh too. So far it's been a fun day.

Oh gosh, you're right, I know, I still smile when I think of those 3. I suspect they were rebelling against their traditional upbringin'.
