Is any of this doing any good???

I've been reading some of the threads on the Election board, and I am wondering if any of this "discussion" is actually influencing anyone's opinions???

I have come to the conclusion that I will vote Republican. I just can not get behind the majority of the ideas that the Democrats have.

With all the negativity directed towards the current administration, I am half-heartedly hoping that a Democrat does INDEED get elected, so we can see how much "better" they will do things.

no, it's not. Just like it didn't last time there was a political forum. However, I think people like being able to debate the issues. No one is really going to change their mind based on a couponing forum.

I agree, speaking for myself there is nothing that could change my mind -- I'll vote for either democratic candidate although one would be a more pleasant experience then the other.

Sadly, I understand your last paragraph totally. If a democrat gets elected he/she will be left with the mess of Iraq and the economy and IMO things are going to get worse way before they get better. If elected the democratic President will certainly get blamed for it. On the plus side, don't forget it's our turn to say "if Bush hadn't .... " or "if Bush had .... ".

I have found out there are alot more people willing to let a bigger government take care of them. Even to the point of expecting government to pick them up when they make mistakes (credit problems, etc)

Sure some things sound good ..like health care for everyone...but you also need to think about the outcome that can be produced. Once government gets too far involved you will start seeing "special interest" outcrys for limiting a person weight, smoking, fittness programs..in other words you pay the price for the "safety" by giving up your freedoms.

I am more intent then ever to try to preseve the freedoms for my children and not leave them burdened with a unthinkable national debt.
I do not think people are afraid of change rather they are afraid to accept personal responbility that goes along with being free,

Yes, I think it's a fine line that is walked. Your post made me think about how people (general people) are so quick to say "oh the Social Security Office...." or "Oh, the IRS...." These are all gov't run agencies..... WHAT do they think gov't run ANYTHING will be like????

I am just finding it so frustrating all of the debating and back and forth stuff. And, as one of the posters above said, the next administration will be left with the mess of this administration. WEll, how about the "mess" that this administration inherited....it can really be looked at from any angle....it's just what spin you (general you) want to put on it.

The mortgage and C/C fiasco is NOT the gov'ts fault. Yes, personal responsibility would be quite nice.
