It's sad how upset so many seem to get about the fact that there are various African-American groups out there who endorse Obama. The Black Panthers are not hate mongers. Not that I expect you to get that.

You know, I couldn't find any evidence of this "endorsement" anywhere except considerable discussion on conservative blogs, etc. I know the OP wouldn't post anything she knew wasn't legitimate but one does wonder

I do not know much about the MyBarackObama network. I understand anyone can join and make a page. But someone should be pulling things like this off the website if Obama does not agree with them.

Further more - The blog from the link provided does not have a name associated with it - It DOES NOT SAY the New Black Panther Party endorses Obama - if you go to the Black Panther Link on the blog, there is nothing that I can find on the site that says they've given their support to Obama.

It's like you saw the Black Panther Avatar and ASSUMED they had given their endorsement.

Instead of trying to help the race issue you are just throwing fuel on the fire for racists.

I may have made a mistake saying they endorsed him, I didnt know anyone could make a page on his website....I apologize for that...but since Obama is in this very sensitive situation with his Pastor (if thats what you want to call him) I certainly wouldnt allow such an extremist group on my campaign website..unless of course like some of you, he sees no problem with their agenda??? Sherri, you rock my world! I agree that if this group were to officially endorse Obama he would HAVE to reject it. This group is the epitome of racism.

Here is an example why I feel comfortable saying this is a racist group - this quote comes from The New Black Power Newsletter Sep-Oct 2006

"Racism and history have revealed to African youth that there is only one language understood by white people, the language of violence. The white man is not going to let go of anything unless he is hit over the head and it is taken away from him. The youth know that for more than 400 years the white man has raped our women, flogged us, killed us and forced us into slavery. They will be slaves no longer. They want what is theirs in the world and they know there is only one way to get it – by force, the same way the white man got it from us.

But are we listening to our youth, or are we condemning them? Taking the time to understand their conditions and decisions will put us in a position to guide these same actions purposefully. Our African children don’t want or need the white man’s help, because they know what kind of help to expect. If they’re going to make it, they got to make it with their GOD and their warrior spirit. The African youth will run the world. So, white man, get out of the way. They’re on the move. They’re on the move and won’t be stopped."

"Why I support Barack Obama: Barack Obama represents "Positive Change" for all of America. Obama will stir the "Melting Pot" into a better "Molten America"."

No one sees the endorsement?

I am going to break my own rule and feed into your silly posts - yes, this is an endorsement - from a PERSON - the PERSON who wrote the blog - any PERSON can endorse any candidate - Any PERSON can put any avatar on their post, that does not make them a representative of that group.

I am not throwing fire. Anyone can do a google search and find it.
It is just more than an Avatar. Sure anyone can claim they are whoever. I saw the words "new black panther" 3 times not just an avatar.

I am sure the Obama campaign will pull it like they finally pulled Wright's page also.

I see a lot of blogs that state there is an endorsement, but I don't see anything that is official - do you have a link?

Someone I am sure will say that this is not a creditable source, It will probably be reported by the mass media before long..if the quotes are indeed true.

Racists endorse Obama on candidate's website

"Malik Zulu Shabazz, NBPP national chairman, who has given scores of speeches condemning "white men" and Jews, confirmed his organization's endorsement of Obama in an interview with WND today."

Speaking for myself, I'm totally out of my depth about the original Black Panther Party active in the 60s and the New Black Panther Party begun in the 90s . Just from the bit of research I've done this morning it appears that the few remaining members of the original party have asked that the new party make it clear that they are in no way affiliated with the original party.

Even though many here don't trust wikipedia here is a link which explains a bit about both parties. Click on the link at the top of the page which says "the neutrality of this article is disputed" for some additional information.

New Black Panther Party - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Back to the subject of the OP -- I'm not sure this endorsement is legitimate or a bit of mischief but there is little a candidate can do when an organization "endorses" his/her camapign. He or she can refute the endorsement but in the case of a situation like this it takes on a life of its own and in many cases its probably better if the candidate just ignores the endorsement.

Its a whole other matter if a candidate requests an endorsement which happened with Senator McCain and Rev Hagee but we won't go there on this thread

The New Black Panthers is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. They are considered a Black Separatist Group. As such, they would not be inclined to seek a "molten America" anymore than a White Supremacist group would.

I'm inclined to believe that it is a bit of mischief and not even on the site.
