And I certainly don't think just anyone could carry it off. A lot of men would, and do, look silly with beards. I particularly dislike that half shaven look that has been so popular for what seems to be eons now. To me, it looks scruffy and reminds me of the old bums I used to find sleeping on the sidewalks years ago. I get the urge to rush up to them with razor in one hand and shaving cream in the other. Luckily for them and me, I don't keep razors and shaving cream in my purse. |

And no one mentioned Bill Clinton's tallywacker! You'd think as a grown-up and professional, you could call it it's proper name, though! But since you DID mention it, Mr. Clinton was our president at the time and lied about it and did things with it on our time (we as taxpayers did pay him, you know), and I sure didn't appreciate it that he used that time for his personal pleasure as he did. But as a matter of fact, I like beards on men as long as they're well kept. And I love the 5 o'clock shadow beard and scruffy look. Very sexy! OK. Satisfied now? I talked about beards. And I still don't know how beards and politics are related! |

| It doesn't relate to his politics, but it does relate to people's perception of him. He has a rather bland genial look without it, but with it, he seems more in command, he has more of a presence than without it, IMO. I think had he had it early on, he might have had more of an impact during the early days of the primaries. Of course I saw a brief shot of him with Obama and he had on horrible light colored slacks with a suit coat that was too short and too small and that kind of ruined the effect. But with the right clothes, the beard lends him distinction. |

Thank you for answering my question in the way it was asked. You totally had the right attitude without thinking of other motives for my question! (And honestly there weren't any. I was just asking!) I don't know why some think they have to be rude when a simple question is asked of the OP. Maybe they've been rude for so long that they don't know how to act any other way. But thanks! I haven't seen him with a beard yet (or didn't notice it), so I'll keep an eye out for him. |

I sometimes notice quirky things the physical appearance of figures in the public eye.

| You are right. People are always commenting on what Hillary is wearing or doing with her hair and then I saw Richardson and liked what I saw and thought it would make for a change of pace. And it's one of the things that I wish we had do overs on. It would be fun to see how different the election process might have gone, had Richardson been sporting that beard at the beginning. He certainly looks more ethnic with it and given the current bent towards nominating from previously unrepresented groups, he might have done better than he did looking like the typical white male.
