Citizens Against Government Waste 2008 Pig Book Summary
One politician's pork is another's project to bring jobs to his/her state. Both parties add "pork projects" onto important bills that the president almost has to sign. President Clinton was granted line item veto authority for a few months but it was subsequently overturned by the court. Republicans had control of Congress and the Presidency up until 2006 and had a record number of pork projects approved so both parties are guilty. Not sure what the answer is as most politicians are re-elected based in part on the pork they've brought home to their districts.
