curiosity Question

Just curious....

What or who dictates closure/locking of a thread?

We have a thread that was closed at 55 posts, and we have one that is still going at close to 300 posts. I'm just wondering why one was closed/locked, and one is allowed to remaing open.

I was wondering that myself. It used to be that all threads were locked at 50. I thought perhaps the mod was just on vacation this weekend, but when one was locked and not the other, I admit I was perplexed.

Well ladies, since the thread was getting nasty and not productive. I asked that it be closed!!!! When the first response to my opening thread wants me (and others) that share my opinions to Shut the F up it's not going to be a very nice thread! Please DO NOT start with me again. I am just answering why I asked for the thread to be closed. Have a good holiday!

The thread was closed as it was past 50 replies and had been reported. All threads are supposed to be closed at 50 replies. Yes, kathytheshopper did request the thread be closed. However, as the OP she had the ability to delete the thread. It was a coincidence.

I missed the religion thread and will close it now. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I don't frequent this board very often. It gets to "personal" for my taste.

I wasn't on vacation --- I was at a soccer tournament in Gettysburg. Finally we had nice weather!

Obviously the mods can close any thread they want, but you might want to consider that now people might ask for the closing of threads of yours that they don't like.

My suggestion is that you simply walk away from threads you don't like rather than stomp your feet when you're displeased to ask for the thread to be closed. Non-productive and nasty is in the eye of the reader and not all agree with your opinions, as the thread demonstrated.

Ah, the thread was getting nasty and nonproductive. Seems to me then the nasty thread was the part of the thread where someone likened someone else to a murderer or a rapist. That is called nasty to me.

To ask those who are judgemental and not minding their own business to shut the F up seems not quite as nasty. I didn't say F-U to anyone.....and if you didn't think that your post was judgemental or any of what you posted, Kathy then I am thinking that you would not think it was generated towards you....but you did. What I did say was:

"I wish that those sanctimonious so called "Christians" and I have seen you posting the last couple of days with your anti-Christ like crap would have a huge healthy cup of shut the F- up."

I would like to apologize to those people who now have a bad impression of those people who call themselves Catholic. Not all Catholics are judgemental or nonempathetic, nor are all Christians. But I know that by seeing some of the postings here you would think that Christians are not empathetic and Catholics are all about exclusion not inclusion. I know the priest that I love is the most non judgemental person I know. He has empathy for people placed in hard places due to choices they made. He holds no judgement for people who are seeking termination of pregnancy because as he said just ten minutes ago, that the Lord loves them the same way he loves those who are not...maybe more because he knows how much they are suffering. You love the child in your home who is hurting the most at any given time. He said that though the church is anti abortion, that for a Catholic to tell another Catholic they are not a good Catholic is not what the church is teaching. It is not what the Lord would have us do. He said alot more than that but I expect that the bottom line is that I feel badly that I lost my temper but I do not apologize for what I said that got kathy to close the thread.
