McCain and Obama differ on GI Bill Part II

This stinks having the threads closed at 50 So, here we go.......part two:

Posted by kvmj:
Did you know that Webb graduated first in his class? McCain says that Eisenhower asked to speak to the cadet who graduated last in his class and ended up speaking to McCain. McCain now claims he was 5th. from the bottom.

McCain also downed 5 planes. The Forrestal incident was particelarly tragic.

My reply:

Yes, I did know that Senator Webb graduated first in his class, but, that was at the Marine Corps Officers Basic School (First in his class of 243 at the Marine Corps Officers' Basic School in Quantico, Virginia). McCain was 5th from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy. Two different things. **this section has been edited for clarification***

Can you please explain what you mean by Senator McCain downing 5 planes??

Just as a throwback to the other, closed thread, someone claimed Webb only has four years of military experience. Not true. Remember, I said military experience, not military service. I most certainly do count his time in Navy ROTC, the Naval Academy, his time with Congress as counsel to the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, his time as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs and his time as Secretary of the Navy. If anything, his experience is broader than McCain's when it comes to veterans issues.

Coming in late to this conversation because I have subbed the last two day for a very difiicult sixth grade classroom.

I have had two sons attend the Naval Academy and one son who is leaving in a few days for Summer Seminar there which will begin his journey to an nomination, appointment and subsequent I Day and hopefully Commisioning with the class of 2013. (Just a little brag, there)

I don't hold much for being last or first in their class at the Academy as it is a very difficult school to get through and after Commissioning, everyone of them, even the last in the class is still called Sir.

John McCain does have a son who is a grad and Sen. Webb has an enlisted son in the Marines. I think that Jim Webb would have a better idea of what is needed because he is seeing the benefits from both the Officer ranks as well as the enlisted ranks (which is where most of the ed benefits will be used). The Academy grads don't really have a need to use the bennies because they already have their education.

I also read a lot before I make any decisions on the platforms. I read things from all sources and watch a lot of TV and I read here because lots of people here do the research for me and I learn from reading people's opinions. When someone posts something, I usually read what they have posted, decide if it is a plausible source and if I agree with it, then I make my own decision. I would NOT believe someone (especially a career politician) else's opinion who has a dog in the fight.

McCain crashed a plane into the ocean in training. He crashed another one. By flying too low, he crashed a plane into power lines knocking out power to half of Spain. After landing on the Forrestal, somehow his plane caught on fire, a bomb exploded and 134 sailors died. Then, he was shot down in Vietnam.

I don't want John McCain to be my pilot.
