Thumbs down Political Forum questions not answered...

So I don't get my post deleted for not being exactly on topic...

I never required permission to do so in the past and I don't think I do now. What you're seeing is someone(s) wanting to stir up trouble and have these threads removed because they're not EXACTLY on topic. Why? Who knows. For the MOST part I thought this board was going great, even with the non-election topics. I think it would be cool to let it continue as a political board after the election., since I know some folks like to talk about such things. Is this board ALWAYS great? No. But not enough to slap everyone's hands and demand no one talk about anything except the election.

But, if some of you want to call each other out as other members, insult IQ levels, and generally harass (which has nothing REMOTELY to do with politics), fine. Have at it. But don't turn around and report for harassment and rudeness. You can't have it BOTH ways.
I did not report ANYTHING first of all. Second of all, if you're going to start policing one person, then you need to do it to EVERYONE, in EVERY post. So that bs about give an inch is simply that Ambrianna. Third of all, I'm not "trying to stir up trouble", I'm trying to find out EXACTLY what all you will be (and have been) randomly deleting. As a long time member of the board I feel I'm more than entitled to know the answer, although I suppose if you don't like the question, you probably will delete this post.

Should we assume that from now on ANYTHING not considered by you to be on topic will be deleted? How will you be making that determination? Why haven't you been doing this in all the hundreds of other posts on this particular forum?

Well looky here, another person saying essentially the same thing that I did and looking for answers and fairness.

The answer is that just a few of us are singled out. Others, even more caustic, for whatever reason(s) are okey dokey.

jaded, maybe they will answer you without avoidance and with truthfulness. Maybe. Maybe not.

dl

....edited to add (to stay on topic for the board) that if posts outside of Election 2008 are acceptable, then change the title/rules of play and perhaps even more posters will join in. My political opinion is that neither a book nor a scarf will influence my voting.

The "you" was general you. Who said "jaded" was trying to stir up trouble? Who said "jaded" reported anything?

Let me state one more - and final - time, I agreed with jeanief. It was okay to have leeway and post POLITICAL issues, not necessarily ELECTION issues. Since the whole argument was brought publicly to the boards about certain threads not being ELECTION issues, I backed up the majority that didn't seem to have issue with it. Period. Now you're taking this and running with it and wanting some kind of list as to what will and will not be deleted. No good deed goes unpunished, eh?

And now we have to have a whole separate thread on it. Jeez Louise.

For the record, and I can't believe I have to state this...there's a difference between going off topic a bit with similar issues and boiling a thread down to "nanny nanny boo boo" at each other.

But, like I said, tear each other up all you want, if that's what will make folks happy. But don't turn around and report threads. Those folks know who they are.

If it's still not clear, maybe truble can clarify. She seemed to get it.

Yikes, I am sorry if my post stirred up such trouble! I just meant to say that I think this particular board could have some less rigid borders or levels of discussion. I am/was unaware of anything caustic going on in that thread so certainly was not pointing fingers at anyone. I hope we do not have to lose this board because, as nasty as some of the posts have gotten, there has also been a great deal of informative discussion and back-and-forth sharing. There is a reason that there is a saying, in essence, that you need to be careful and selective in discussing politics and religion for fear of offending. Well, this board has covered both topics...and there are really disparate views continued in the membership of this community. These values we hold as individuals are sometimes/often very strong, and strong words have been used....some of which I cringed to read in their nastiness. However, this forum serves a purpose, and people can, in my never to be humble opinion, choose to participate, contribute and engage in it's entirety, or they can opt to avoid/ignore those posters who they find offensive (and we know those members do exist here) and still enjoy discourse. I know that I have fairly strong views and opinions on topics discussed on this board which are in direct contrast to others on this board. Yet, I feel I can be here and have an intelligent conversation without having to deal with those who might be personally offensive or rude. After reading even just a few posts of certain members, I know which members I need to ignore to not listen to the vitriol. As long as that option remains here I think all can feel safe coming here and posting and sharing.
