I heard something on the radio this morning about this, and tried to do a google search of it. I didn't turn up much straight information. On the radio, the guy was saying that they will put a $1.50 - $5 per GALLON of gas tax on the gas. Has anyone heard of this, or know where to read up on this???

There is suppose to be a vote taken on June 2nd. on the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act (S. 2191. According to some articles the cost that the companies will have, will be passed on to the consumer in the price of higher gas. Senators Warn Bill Could Spike Gas $1.50 to $5 a Gallon "according to the Environmental Protection Agency it will increase gas prices by $1.50. The National Association of Manufacturers says it will increase it as much as $5 per gallon.” |

First of all, cap and trade would apply to all industries, not just oil. It's a relatively inexpensive system to implement. The whole system has little to do with making improvements. It is a system that I do not support for other reasons. So far it has done very little to reduce emissions. For instance, a factory could produce the same amount of emmissions as long as they do something to offset the excess by planting trees anywhere else in the world. It would cost corporations very little so, no, $5 per gallon in gasonline increase is not at all likely. Kevin Smith - Offsetting democracy - Transnational Institute |
