Gosh, that's sad. I'm not sure how I feel since we'll never know the whole truth but the fact that she has remained loyal to him says a lot. It does sound like even without her accident there may have been a divorce or at least unfaithfulness on his part though.

Carol is his first wife. She was married to his friend when he started courting her. After coming home from Vietnam, McCain cheated on Carol with many different women before settling on his current wife, Cindy.

Yes, and it was insinuated in the article that he was cheating on her before he met the current wife. Sounds like even without her accident and his POW experience the marriage may not have worked out. Thinking he was (is) just a hound dawg. Cindy has/had looks, youth, and lots of dollars to keep him in check. A marriage made in heaven if you don't mind the occasional verbal assault.
