Exclamation So, If A Mod Could Take A Sec Out Of Their Busy Schedule...

so are we not allowed to go off topic anymore and will this also apply to all the other boards on MC? Will the terms of service we agreed to when we signed up be changed to reflect this new rule?

If someone who works for MC could take a moment out of their busy schedule and stop avoiding the question and locking the thread b/c of what? fear of answering? anger at the question?

It's a legitimate question in light of recent comments made by mods on several threads. It requires 2 yes or no answers. I know that might take several seconds to type in, but I'd appreciate an answer. Thank you.

First a couple of things. Mods don't work for MC. They are volunteer members of the community who do their best to keep things running nicely. They are members of the community who volunteer. I can't stress this enough. It would be great if before posting something about our mods if folks would first count to 10 or even 100 and think about the fact that they are volunteers simply trying to keep this a nice, friendly place.

The level of divergence from a topic that is acceptable is flexible depending on the board. Naturally a trading board shouldn't have discussions devolve into being about something that has nothing to do with trading. Other boards have much wider topics that make sense. There are no hard and fast rules.

Greg, while I appreciate that the mods are volunteers, and most of them do a great job, I think we all know that a few of them just love the to wield their power in ways that aren't always good for the community.

OH Good Grief! Maybe I'm just in a crabby mood--but let it go already! A thread was deleted by the OP. Big freaking deal!!

I like heated debate and discussion as well as the next person, but some here just really seem to be nit-picking this little incident to death. I mean really? How much do you have to beat a dead horse before you realize it's freaking dead!???

I'll assume you're talking to me since I began this thread. I don't recall mentioning a deleted thread in my question at the top. Of course I could be wrong. Wait, no. I didn't and I'm not.

This isn't simply about her deleted thread; she's not that important imo. I've been told several times lately that a thread was closed b/c it went off topic. So I asked what TO ME is a legitimate question regarding that fact. If you don't like it, don't read or respond to it. I was addressing the question to the mods (and/or Greg), not you.

Greg, no offense to most mods, but I don't care if they're volunteering or not. It didn't have anything to do w/ my question. But your second paragraph did. So it all depends on who the mod at the time is on whether or not we can go off topic. Not very easy for posters to know what's acceptable or not.

actually jaded, NO, I wasn't referring to you. My comment was more directed to truble and nightowlrn.
For some reason the whole delated thread thing just seemed to really stick in their craw, and they wanted to play a game of semantics w/ dnj. Quite frankly, I found their behaviour extremely childish and petty for such well-educated women!

For some unknown reason the last few threads that they have posted in have pertained to the one particular deleted thread.

So, go put on your big girl panties--and quit giving me ****. You made an assumption and you are wrong!

dammit. I'm not wrong. I'm misdirected. Much better than being wrong.

anyway, I'm sorry. (I will swear I never said that if asked)

Either would fit....and, BTW, I'm going to use that line about being "misdirected" "no, I was NOT wrong......I was merely misdirected" I like that, thanks.

I, too, would like some clarification on the "going off topic" part of things. I think about 75% of the threads do that, don't that. I think it's just human nature, when you are talking, something is said that brings to mind something else, and BAM, there you are, off on a tangent. Personally, I don't see a problem with it unless people do it just to be nasty with someone else....

I think part of the confusion comes in with the fact that the mods/admin don't apply the rules equally. And, as Jaded ( I think it was you, anyway) said, some mods have their "favorites" and show them more leniency. We all know it's true, too.

As for the O'bama OpalDancing thing......I think that one has been beat to death already, as well.

I suppose xenophobic and racist posts, by a poster hiding behind another user name, that are then then hidden and protected by those who moderate this board tend to "stick" in my craw. If that is a symptom of my education, I am okay with it.

If you don't like how the board is moderated then might I suggest you stick to boards where they are moderated to your taste?

I am of the opinion that some people read far to much into the incident that occurred. If you expect the worst of people, that's what you will get. And sometimes, some posters here are just looking for any excuse to latch onto something and make a much bigger deal out of it that it really is....It's a freaking public anonymous message board!

The biggest "symptom" of your education sometimes comes across as you being condescending and snotty....of course that's just my opinion.

Exactly - so why protect a racist and their post?

If you perceive my dismay at a racist poster and how it was protected to be condescending and snotty, you are of course entitled to your opinion.

Oh, I was speaking overall (in regards to your condescending and snotty replies) not just this specific issue--I'm sorry that I didn't make that clear.

And really? I think some people post particular things just to get other posters riled up. The more you argue with them or call them out--the better they like. They probably sit at behind their computer and laugh at your indignation and posturing due to their inflammatory posts. With people like that, the more you respond to their baiting the more they like it. Learning to ignore their ignorance/stupidity--and actually ignoring them is far more effective than getting into a battle of words with them.

I know that there are people who absolutely believe every negative thing about Obama (or McCain), but beating a dead horse on a message board is not going to change their small minds.

LOL --- Hum --- Let's see here ---- LOL

While I don't deny some (many, all) might find my writing style and opinions not to their liking, I find the statement above to be wholey ironic and down right amusing considering the source.

In the last few months you have called Kathytheshopper a C&N!, corrected Julieoh0712's grammar, made fun of someone who posted they were upset and leaving the board, and suggested forrestlayne was "off" and was going to burn in Hell. And, the most ironic of all, you asked for clarification of a moderation rule.

Perhaps you want to follow your own suggestion to other posters and place me on your ignore list if you find my written word so insulting to your refined sense of posting behavior.

hmmmmmm.....don't know if I should be flattered that you either pay such attention to me, or if I should be scared that seem obsessed with what I have posted.

And if it's just that you went and searched all my posts to come up w/ examples to fit your post--then I'm thinking you might have far too much time on your hands.....

Don't be concerned or flattered. It only took about 10 minutes to find those in only the last month. Your posts tend to entertain me, so I do pay attention. As I am sure mine must entertain you, since you felt comfortable to state you knew the "overall" postings I have made.

ETA - let us not forget who dragged whose name into this thread to begin with ...................

But you still took the time, be it 10 min. or 10 hours---you still took the time to research just to prove your point and continue an argument.

seriously? god, I feel like Rodney King here, but "Can't we all just get along"? Same team here, remember? step back. take a deep breath. relax, relate, release. It's all good. I'm now running out of quotes, but you know what I mean. It's just not that serious.

Can we please go talk bad about McCain and his womanizing ways now? Or his supposition that there's nothing wrong w/ the economy? Or the fact that I found out why I haven't seen anyone w/ a McCain sticker on their car. Because one person here in Manassas bought all 3 of them for their car.

I'm funny sometimes.

Out and about today, we saw a house that has a HUGE (billboard size) Obama sign in the yard, another one in their big bay window, and several smaller signs in and around their house. Something tells me they are going to vote Democrat in November---just a guess though!

I have seen a lot of Ron Paul stuff lately, too. DH and I were out driving around yesterday, and saw THREE Ron Paul signs. I told DH, hmmmm, don't they know he isn't exactly "in the race" anymore??? Made me laugh, since my DD is insistent on voting for Hillary Clinton ,

Some states you can "write in" a candidate in the election. There is still a lot of supporters that will do that.
Here is a picture of a house that a lady painted in support of Ron Paul. Some people have a lot of spirit.

Funny. I haven't seen any stuff yet. Well not quite. I saw a sign for a local election coming up in August. Nothing bigger than that so far. But since I live in enemy territory, it could be that they just figure since they all drank the coolaid that there is no need for signs. Or since we are perhaps a swing state, (MO), maybe they are saving their efforts for later, after that excitingly important August election.

There is one house in my neighborhood with political signage. It is for Obama. I image as the election date gets closer more propoganda will go up.

I haven't seen any signs or bumper stickers for either party in our area.

Maybe there's a lot of voters out there who aren't impressed with either candidate!!

They are just starting to sneak out here in my area (Richmond, VA).

I recently moved here from Chicago, and my sister says it is all over the place there. The lines have been drawn for a long time.

I'm not sure what you're seeing, but I'm seeing a lot of Obama stickers -- mostly in the Fan area, near West End, where I'd expect them. I think I've seen two McCain stickers and one Hillary one. I've been kind of surprised by how many Obama ones I see.

I guess I'ver seen the stickers on the cars, but haven't paid much attention...and I a was down near Carytown for lunch today and saw a few Obama signs. But, I live on the south side and haven't seen many yard signs. I think that's what tends to stand out to me.

I'm in southside, too, but my neighborhood doesn't let us put up yard signs until (I think it's) 30 days before the election.

When I put up my Kerry-Edwards sign four years ago, some jerks stole it within hours.

My Tim Kaine sign went inside my front window.

The only sticker I remember seeing said "Vote for Monica Lewinsky's ex-boyfriends currant wife!"

On another topic... I have not been to this board for a while but I agree that there is favoritism here. I do not think it is on purpose but it does happen. I think most people (myself included sometimes) need to remember that this board is full of strangers. So don't let them ruin your day by what they post. I like hearing the different opinions and reasons a person believes what they believe. I have changed the way I think on some issues because I have talked to people that are passionate about that issue. But at the end of the day, most people here are strangers that I will never talk to anywhere but here.

You can always write-in a candidate....if you don't know how or don't see it on your ballot, ask a precinct worker and they will direct you. I have heard from many people that write-ins will be used in the upcoming election.

LOL - I guess the whole "can't go off topic" rule doesn't always apply : )

I have been traveling a lot the last four weeks around Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. No signs in yards or on many cars yet.

Your Federal tax dollars hard at work

Actually, I love this area. Great people. June wasn't fun driving around tornados and hail storms, and floods in Iowa, but I do love driving though the farm lands and being in small towns. And, I now have officially broken the record for the most Holiday Inn reward points earned in 6 weeks : )

Yes the weather is always lovely in this part of the world. Actually, aside from the constant rain and flooding, this spring was pretty nice. But now, not so much. The A/C never stops running and the humidity and skeeters are out in force. I had over 75 mosquito bites after sitting out for an hour for fireworks on the 4th of July.
