McCain's Tax Lie

Quote:
McCain claims in an ad released today that "Obama voted to raise taxes on people making just $42,000. He promises more taxes on small business, seniors, your life savings, your family."

But when it comes to promises, it's worth pointing out that, according to the non-partisan Tax Policy Center's analysis of both candidates' proposed plans, Obama would cut taxes for those making in the range of $38,000 to $66,000 three to almost eight times more than McCain would.

Under Obama's plan, according to the center, by 2009, those making $37,595 would see an average increase in their income of 3.6%, or a tax cut of $892; those making an average of $66,354 would see an increase in their income of 2.4%, or a tax cut of $1,042.

On the other hand, Under McCain's plan, those making $37,595 would see an increase in their income of only about 0.5%, or $113 tax cut; those making $66,354 would see only an increase of 0.7% in their income, or a tax break of $319.

And this is from Media Research Center Home Page - 8/8/2008 5:44:33 PM - Tax Policy Center is a product of the left leaning Brookings Institution And Urban Institute. Quick google search links these sites ot the far left.
Stats can always be manipulated. Sorry Truble but can't believe stats from a left wing source.

Here's a fox news link that refers to the study as independent. Hmnn, who to believe Mr. Bozell or Mr. Murdoch.

Quote:
John McCain and Barack Obama, armed with a new independent study of their tax plans, are accusing each other of wanting to overburden working-class voters.

Obama and McCain are both trumpeting their tax platforms and economic proposals, as $4-a-gallon gas and other market news sours Americans’ economic outlooks. The candidates are balancing economic discussions with speeches on Iraq and foreign policy.

The study they referenced this week was a preliminary report out of the Tax Policy Center, which concluded that while both candidates offer “substantial” tax cuts, those breaks benefit two different classes of taxpayers - and both plans drive up the deficit.

Sorry, shopper, I didn't give you stats from a left wing source. I know, the truth about McCain must be very painful for you, but the fact is that he's a womanizing liar with a serious problem keeping his facts straight. Oh, and he's creepy looking, but I think that's overshadowed by his ridiculous lies.

My first post

Here are some comments from factcheck.org (neither left nor right wing) regarding McCain’s tax ads.

More Tax Deceptions
August 8, 2008 - McCain misrepresents Obama's tax proposals again. And again, and again.
FactCheck.org: More Tax Deceptions

Obama's Celebrity Cred
July 30, 2008 - A new McCain ad calls Obama a celebrity (true) who says he'll raise taxes on electricity (false).
FactCheck.org: Obama's Celebrity Cred

McCain's Small-Business Bunk
July 14, 2008 - He claims 23 million small-business owners would pay higher tax rates under Obama. He's wrong. The vast majority would see no change, and many would get a cut.
FactCheck.org: McCain's Small-Business Bunk

The $32,000 Question
July 8, 2008 - Updated: July 11, 2008
The McCain campaign falsely claims that Obama voted to raise income taxes on individuals earning "as little as $32,000 per year."
FactCheck.org: The $32,000 Question

Errors en Español
July 8, 2008 - Updated: July 9, 2008
A Spanish-language McCain radio ad gets nearly all its facts wrong.
FactCheck.org: Errors en Español

Tax Tally Trickery
July 3, 2008 - Republicans claim Obama "voted 94 times for higher taxes." But their count is inflated and misleading
FactCheck.org: Tax Tally Trickery

Not a McCain ad but more of the same
Q: Could Obama tax my profits if I sell my home? Would he tax my IRA? Would he tax my water?
I was just sent this and it had 100s of names attached and forwarded over and over – is it real? FactCheck.org: Would Obama tax my profits if I sell my home? Would he tax my IRA? Would he tax my water?

I did expect better of McCain. I thought he was a man of honor. Now he’s running for president on lies, false statements and personal (not policy) attacks. How disappointing.

We are screwed either way.

McCain and Obama tax plans are criticized - Los Angeles Times

"The competing tax plans laid out by Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain would both add trillions of dollars to the national debt and could add to the tax system's complexity, a nonpartisan tax research group concluded Wednesday in a newly released report.

Both campaigns assert that their plans to continue many Bush-era tax cuts and offer new reductions would aid the economy without massive new spending. But the Washington-based Tax Policy Center warned that under either candidate, "the debt would likely continue to rise as it has over the past eight years.""

Hey, thanks for digging this old thread up -- has some good, pertinent information seeing as how Senator McCain will likely mention his tax policies in his speech in a few hours.

And Mr. McCain has had his own share of womanizing and cheating on his wife. Casting stones always sends out that little ripple that catches em all....

You caught me I did have another user name about 5 or maybe 6 or 7 years ago... back when the boards had a green shamrock theme. But haven't posted in years and couldn't remeber my user ID or pass so created a new one.

Nope never heard of Hampton Roads.

I should make is clear that was my first post on the Election board. Years ago I posted on the LWIF board a couple times.

By the time they have a dependent deduction or two and then take the standard deduction, exactly how much is someone who makes $37,595 paying in taxes? Just curious.

That's a good question and sorry I don't have an answer for you.

Seems like both positions on taxes are flawed, and then again these are also just proposals of what the say they'd like to do. Here's a pretty good site that compares the canidates and more importantly shows how they have voted in the past:

No, I didn’t forget one. My post was written on Aug 9th, 20 days before this came out and it was about “McCain Tax Lies”. I was saving this one for a different debate

Ahhh. . .ok. Just trying to bring a little balance. I think both plans are pretty unrealistic, and just pointing out that the misrepresentation comes from both camps.
