Arkansas Democratic Party Chairman and former state Senator Bill Gwatney of Jacksonville has been shot at the party's headquarters, according to reports.

KTHV-TV, Channel 11, is reporting that Gwatney was shot multiple times in the upper torso has been taken to a local hospital. The Arkansas Democratic Party said Gwatney is hospitalized in critical after incident, KTHV said.

Officers told the CBS affiliate that police pursued a white male suspect in his 40's, driving a pickup truck, into Grant County. KTHV reported that officers apprehended him in Sheridan, and that he was shot during his capture.

State Police spokesman Bill Sadler told ArkansasBusiness.com that the suspect was airlifted from the scene in Sheridan to an unknown hospital.

A news conference is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., according to Little Rock Police.

There are now rumors that the shooter has died, however that has not been confirmed.

Reports now indicate that Bill Gwatney has died as a result of his wounds.

Oh that is so sad.
I had a bad feeling about it...3 times shot, critically injured. I was just hopeful he would be okay.

That's really bad. And scary too. Makes you wonder if this is just the beginning of other things to come, with the convention coming up and everything.
