Thumbs up Obama Says Back Off!!

This should quiet the liberals on this board since their own leader Mr. Obama, says Palin's daughter should be off-limits and to back off. This is from the Associated Press a couple of hours ago.

"Campaigning in Michigan, Obama said the Republican vice presidential candidate's children should be ''off limits'' and cited his own mother, who gave birth to Obama when she was 18.

''This shouldn't be part of our politics, it has no relevance to Governor Palin's performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president, and so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories,'' Obama told reporters."

Edited: I didn't realize another post had been started with Obama's response. I'll remove this one if needed.

Well, he's not my leader, he's my candidate. But I will say that I think the press and candidates are misinformed. If you look at the posts on this board, we're not really talking about her daughter as much as the effect her daughter's condition will have/has had. Does that make sense mom2?

I do respect Mr. Obama for making the statement I quoted. I feel that he can sort of relate (in a different sort of way) to Gov. Palin and her family in that he went thru all the crap with Rev. Wright, the rumors of he being Muslim and what the media was saying about Michelle and her talk of being proud of being an American for the first time, etc., etc. I'm thinking he wants to get back to the issues of the campaign and stop the rumor mill. It's causing a loss of focus on what the real issues are. Like I said in another post, Gov. Palin shouldn't have to cease being in politics simply because her 17 year old daughter made a mistake and got herself pregnant. She shouldn't have to give up her once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because of her daughter's mistake. She's already 5 months pregnant, the people in Alaska already knew about it and now the lower 48 states are having a field-day of something that became evident to the people of Alaska months ago.

Five years down the road, if Gov. Palin did decide not to run for VP simply because her 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant, would she resent and regret that decision? I think she would. In five years, it will be water under the bridge.

You can raise your children and teach them right from wrong but you can't be with them 24/7. I remember reading Ann Landers years ago when a young girl wrote in and said something to the effect of "my older sister is a good girl and she and her boyfriend only sit in church and hold hands and now she's pregnant. What happpened?" Ann Landers responded, "Somebody moved!"

and if Gov. Palin stays in the race would her daughter (and/or other children) feel like their own mother chose her wants and desires over them? Will they resent her decision? What will the effect be on the children who have no say in the matter?

I guess that there is nothing on this Earth more important to me than my children. I would walk through Hell to protect them, to provide them whatever they need, and I would never choose a job over them (as I stated on another thread--I actually gave up a job that I dearly loved, was very good at, and made a difference in, for my children. Albeit not the job of VP--but still...)

Please don't misunderstand this question but what was it that made you change your mind about Governor Palin accepting the VP nomination. If I remember earlier you thought she should stay in or perhaps I misunderstood your earlier posts. Was it the combination of her baby and daughter or??

I would do anything for my boys too!!! ANd good for you for looking out for your kids.
I would still like to know if the Palins made this decision AS A FAMILY. The girl is 17 and old enough to express her feelings on the subject.

My initial reaction was to a post made by truble that seemed to imply that just because Gov. Palin had a baby she shouldn't even consider running. I disagreed w/ that in principle and in theory--lots of moms w/ babies work, and do a mighty fine job.

But, as I have researched Gov. Palin, I feel that she is not the right person for the job. I believe that she has far too much on her plate to be an effective leader of her life, much less the nation. I am appalled and sickened by what I perceive as Gov. Palin's disregard for her daughter and the father of this child. It has nothing to do w/ her parenting skills or lack thereof. I don't agree with how Gov. Palin handled this situation, the birth of her last child, and the apparent scandal involving her former brother in law.

Seriously, I'm just about ready to crawl into a cave until this election is over. Come out when the dust clears and a winner is declared and deal with it then.

I'm not a McCain fan. I don't like Obama---I'm seriously considering writing in a vote!

Thinking Mickey and Donald need to start a grassroots organization for the write in crowd.

Thanks for explaining your thoughts on the governor.
