Palin Loves Those Earmarks!

McCain has made a big stink about earmarks. Guess it didn't bother him, during his extensive vetting process, that Palin seems to be awfully fond of them.

Quote:
ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 1 -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin employed a lobbying firm to secure almost $27 million in federal earmarks for a town of 6,700 residents while she was its mayor, according to an analysis by an independent government watchdog group.

There was $500,000 for a youth shelter, $1.9 million for a transportation hub, $900,000 for sewer repairs, and $15 million for a rail project -- all intended to benefit Palin's town, Wasilla, located about 45 miles north of Anchorage.

In introducing Palin as his running mate on Friday, Sen. John McCain cast her as a compatriot in his battle against wasteful federal spending. McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, hailed Palin as a politician "with an outstanding reputation for standing up to special interests and entrenched bureaucracies -- someone who has fought against corruption and the failed policies of the past, someone who's stopped government from wasting taxpayers' money."
$27,000,000.00 for a town of 6,700 people? Unbelievable.

This doesn't even include the money she wanted for the famous "Bridge to Nowhere" that she falsely claimed to have been against.

Maybe McCain was using the same reasoning that Obama was.
He might not want a "yes person". Looking for someone with an independent views that would question him on different things.

So, even though he's running on a campaign that loudly decried earmarks, you think McCain thought it was a good idea to have a VP candidate that was an absolute pig at the earmark trough? Really?

If that's true, it once again tells me that McCain is devoid of good sense.

It's one thing to have a running mate that will challenge you -- it's another to have a running mate that is diametrically opposed to one of the biggest planks in your platform.

Biden and Obama differ in many ways
On the subject of taking lobbyist money for your campaign

OpenSecrets | The Money Behind Biden - Capital Eye
"Obama has been outspoken about contributions from lobbyists, vowing not to accept any contributions from them. Biden doesn't seem to have quite the same view"

So you think it's a good idea that McCain picked a candidate that stands for the polar opposite of what he says he stands for?

Kind of like Ron Paul running for president with George Bush as his VP?

With McCain and Palin on some issues they are very different on others their views are very similar.
You are not going to find 2 people that agree on everything.
