Sounds like James Taylor to me. He was at the convention in Denver so even if it turns out to be a sound-a-like, I doubt Senator Obama will be hearing from his lawyer as has been the case with the McCain camp about a half dozen times in the last few months.

| Gosh, slow your roll -- my point was, even if it isn't James Taylor, the Obama camp likely has his blessings to use an artist with a similar style.

Hmmm - I think this discussion has gone nowhere, to be truthful... Back on topic - I would like to know who sang that song. It's cute!

That's why there was a reference to attorneys. What the McCain campaign is doing is illegal. I guess he'll try stealing something from Stephen Stills or U2 next. |

If the Wilson sisters (aka Heart) didn't write the song, they have no say so as to how the song is used. The composer of the song or whoever has the "rights" to the song, is the one that needs to ok the use of the song Edited to add....OK, according to Wikipedia (take that with a grain of salt) the Wilson Sisters are co-writers along with band member Roger Fisher. So I have no clue who has the say-so here...lol "Barracuda" was played at the 2008 Republican National Convention in reference to McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin, who was known as "Sarah Barracuda" as a high school basketball star. The Wilson sisters disapproved, claiming that they disagreed with Palin's politics,[3] and sent a cease-and-desist letter to John McCain's campaign. [4] Song co-writer Roger Fisher announced he was "thrilled" with the RNC's use of the song, both because it generated royalties and because it gave him and other band-members an opportunity to voice their support for Barack Obama.[5] Even after Heart expressed their desire that McCain stop using their song, the McCain campaign continued using it, noting that they were paying all licensing fees.[6]

"The Republican Party did in fact obtain the necessary license to use the song, which can be played when a venue pays a blanket fee to ASCAP, the organization that protects music copyrights." Legally they can still play the song. |

"While the Wilsons are clearly upset, "Barracuda" co-writer and former Heart guitarist Roger Fisher (Nancy's ex) has a different outlook. He's happy to receive the publicity, he told Reuters last week, and he pledged to give part of the royalties from the song's use to Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's campaign." Thanks McCain for the contribution to Obama's campaign. Seriously why would McCain even want to use a song which the writers/singers of said song don't want him to use? Why are they having problems finding songs to use that the writers/singers will approve? Why not ask them first? |
