Kids should be off limits, unless you are John McCain

You know, we read a lot about how the Democrats should stay away from aspects of McCain's life and Palin's life because they involve kids.

I agree with this to an extent.

But McCain in 1998 made this "joke":

Quote:
Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.”
Crooks and Liars John McCain’s crude Chelsea Clinton joke

As far as I can tell, he apologized for the "joke," but he didn't deny that he made it.

What an ass.

How can you feel comfortable voting for someone who swipes at a young girl, barely an adult, about her appearance?

He doesn't appeal to me on any number of levels. But this swipe shows me that I wouldn't even like him on a personal level.. Seriously, I just can't imagine supporting a candidate who makes this ill-spirited attack on a young girl's appearance, one who has done nothing worse than being born to two prominent Democrats.

Maybe this isn't a big deal to you, but it is to me. I did think he was a straight-shooter, and that is worth something. This was so petty though. And mean spirited. And just vile.

McCain has things to admire about him. But man, I'm glad he is your guy to support, because I can't possibly even imagine holding my nose and voting for this guy.

I am so NOT surprised to hear this. After all, if you can call your wife a c*** in front of other people, why would somebody else's child make you stop and think about what you say?

Again, everything put out about the Rep. is obviously true........I c'mon, it's obvious.

But one negative thing is said about the Dems.........well those things just could not possibly be true.

So, are you denying that he said either of those things? Or is it okay with you that he did so?

I'm saying there is no way to really know. Of course it would not be ok if he did. Would it be ok if Michelle O. said the whitey thing?? I know it's just a rumor, but to me it sounds like something she might say in private. After all, we don't really know her, she's just recently in the public eye, who knows what she's really like. It is certainly probable that she did. Right??

This is what I think about this...............

McCain has been around for years in the public eye, I can guarantee he's said stupid things, most ppl have. He's had years to be judged by.

Obama, not so much. He's too squeaky clean, or at least he appears to be. He's a wolf in sheeps clothing in my opinion, and if he does get into office, everyone will figure that out soon enough.

At least with McCain we have some vague idea of what we are really getting.

Maybe it should be emphasized that McCain didn't deny his comments. He apologized, but he didn't deny.

OK, expand your mind. Let's assume, for the point of argument that he didn't say it. Even though he didn't deny it.

But, would you agree that it is a disgusting remark? And if not, why not?

What did he apologize for? The joke or the use of the 'c' word?

Both of them are awful. But I truly doubt he'd be dumb enough to tell that ridiculous Chelsea joke - at least in public. And the 'c' word is always unacceptable.

So where's the link to the apology? And No, I'm not looking for the link to the blog that was provided earlier in this thread - that's useless. On these here coupon boards, we need the real proof - because we're only one tier under being an accredited law school...

I've hung around here long enough to become pretty link-dependent. I'm not buying it if there's no link...to something OTHER than a blog...

You are referring to an incident that happened 10 years ago. I hope he learned from it, if it even happend, and moved on.

Barck obama said he smoked pot and did cocaine. How could anyone vote for someone like that? He wrote about this in his book.

Hotline: 6/15/98:

Arizona Republic's Murphy reports, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)
"formally apologized" to Pres. Clinton on 6/12 "for a crass joke
he made earlier in the week at the expense of" Hillary Rodham
Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, and AG Janet Reno. McCain spokesperson
Nancy Ives "said a letter of apology had been hand-delivered to
the" WH. Ives "would not repeat the joke that landed McCain in
hot water": "I don't feel comfortable telling you. He feels
awful, and he regrets that he said it ... I just can't repeat
it." Political "sources told the Republic the joke went
something like this: Do you know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly?
Because Janet Reno is her father." WH Press Sec. Mike McCurry
said 6/12 that Clinton considered McCain's apology letter to be
heartfelt: "The president certainly understands how you get
caught saying things you ordinarily wouldn't have said." McCurry
"said Clinton may have even called McCain to assure him there
were no hard feelings" (6/13).

It was a tasteless joke. . .delivered 10yrs ago at a Arizona GOP congressional fundraiser.
