Abortion revisited

I am a fence sitter on this issue, I generally lean toward 1st tri ok, otherwise no unless life of Mother is at risk. I think making it completely illegal would be a step backwards..BUT I read this on another forum & how can I argue with it?

Quote:
It is against the law to touch, YES EVEN JUST TOUCH an eagle’s egg or an owl’s egg. Even if there is no proof that egg was fertilized. I have yet to meet a lib who would say its ok for me to take that egg. I should not touch it because it could potentially become and owl or an eagle. Its just an egg right? When a bird lays an egg there is no way to look at it and know if its ever been firtlized or not. When a woman has an abortion you can be sure a child has died.

Yet we have laws on the books to protect the egg of Eagles and owls eggs. I will go to prison if I touch or take an eagle egg or owl egg.

That is backward thinking. And the only defense to this argument I got from libs so far is that humans are not valuable and owls and eagles are. A pathetic argument from my point of view but it was the only one given.

So tell us, do you think I should have the right to take eggs from eagles and owls or do you agree they are too valuable and should be protected. And since we already know your stance on abortion we can compare the two and see if its at all hypocritical.

I will play...according to the law, to touch an eagles egg is illegal and to have an abortion is legal. It is simple and not hypoctitical at all for me to say to my kids, Don't touch an eagle or an owl's egg or you will be breaking the law but according to the laws of this country, you do have a choice in whether you want to have an abortion or not.

1) The mentioned birds are probably endangered species. As far as I can see, the human race isn't anywhere near extinction (yet).

2) Is it against the law to allow the eagle or owl to destroy its own egg? If I were to come upon an endangered species egg in potential danger of destruction by the parent trying to destroy it, am I compelled to "rescue" the potential life?
~ do you believe an eagle or owl has more rights than a human being to control their "eggs"

3) As long as we are comparing animals to humans. We allow euthanasia for animals born with disabilities or who are old/ill. Indeed, we shoot, kill, and eat them on a regular basis. Do you advocate that we allow this to be extending to the human species?

That reminds me of our local abortion director, Karen, who is a socialist by the way. We had a professional deer hunt to thin the population within the city limits a few years ago. She was out protesting the killing of the deer then heading back to the clinic that's kills the unborn up to 20 week in utero. Guess she likes animals a lot more than humans!!!

I just have a question.....

Why does this discussion continue around here? I'm just curious....not saying that it shouldn't continue....it's an open board and all, but I'm just wondering why?

Hasn't this topic been played out a zillion times around here, mostly by the same players and supporting cast? I can almost write the script on how this one is going to play out.

Just curious....what's the agenda with this topic? What do all you responders really hope to achieve?

I'm not being snarky....this is an honest question.

Hence why I have kept my big mouth shut.....

Usually when someone brings up a hot button topic (here it would be abortion, gay rights, liberal vs. conservative. On the cafe would be Crayola vs. Roseart, breast vs. formula feeding, peanut bans in schools, etc.) it's because they are new to the boards and truly don't know a topic has been beat to death--OR, they are trying to stir up trouble.

Quite frankly, I've worn an indention in my desk from pounding my head against it on some of the stuff on this board--NO MORE. Ain't no one going to change their minds, and if someone doesn't already have an opinion, well, I am NOT going to give mine.
