I saw that last night too. What a schmuck! It sickens me to know that he represents my state. Of course he would not take any blame for Fannie & Freddie. It's not his fault. He warned people. Yeah right!

I was trying to find a transcript to post here, however, it's better to listen to it. This guy has got to go! He's a perfect example of why we are in this mess in the first place. Overall, politicians suck!!

It was a good investment in 2003.

Gosh, I cannot believe that you guys get anything out of a rant like this. All O'Reilly does is scream at Frank without letting him respond at all.

No it wasn't! It was being mismanaged and there were "accounting irregularities" that allowed top management to siphon off bonuses they didnt' earn. It's holdings were overstated and the risk to investors was understated. It was not a good investment.

Frank is a snivelling little coward. It's really disgusting to listen to him try to justify his hand in this. I don't blame O'Reilly for being outraged by him at all.

Here's a good read about where Fannie and Freddie were in 2003:

The clip they played was from Frank from THIS PAST SUMMER - a mere THREE months ago by my calculations - saying that while Freddie and Fannie had not been a good investment LATELY that their fundamentals were sound and that going forward from that point (this past summer!) they WERE a good investment!

Wait... I'm back. Did you miss me? I went off to google for a sec.

Here's the exact quote from July 14, 2008:

REP. BARNEY FRANK (D), MASSACHUSETTS: I think this is a case where Fannie and Freddie are fundamentally sound, that they are not in danger of going under. They're not the best investments these days from the long- term standpoint going back. I think they are in good shape going forward. They're in a housing market. I do think their prospects going forward are very solid. And in fact, we're going to do some things that are going to improve them.

We've gone forward. Sorry, but he was wrong. Or lying.

I believe that Barney Franks love interest either does work or did work for Fannie Mae. Interesting.
I was laughing my rear end off watching Bill.
