Exclamation White House considers ownership stakes in banks

White House considers ownership stakes in banks: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance

Does anyone besides me not feel comfortable about gouvernment taking ownership of theese banks?

Something just does not smell right about that idea. Now instead of oweing the banks you will owe the government, and the gouvernment will own your money.

another step towards socialism.

BUT one thing to consider, if any other business bought them out they would own them too, no? If there is any chance of any profit being realized, would it not be right that that profit went back to who invested in it?

Do you realize that Japan went through this 20 yrs ago, their government did not step in, their market dropped 75%, they STILL have not recovered, that is what we are trying to prevent with the bailout.

We really don't have any options right now. Either we go through a massive crash or we nationalize the banks.

It would not be a permanent takeover.

I didn't think our government was supposed to own businesses.

State owned banks. . .not good. . .very scary!

Look back through history. . .privately owned banking is the first thing to go in any communist or fascist state. Our government is waaaay to big and making it bigger isn't going to help anyone.

Kolu. . .do you seriously think that we, the taxpayers, will realize any profits? Nope. . .if the there is any money to be made it will go back right into the government coffers and right back out again to some crazy pork for votes scheme.

The first thing to go in a communist or fascist state is the media. Gotta control the message first.

Were the government to permanently seize the all of the banks in this country, you would be looking at socialism. They have little choice other than taking over these ailing banks until such time as solvency can be restored. We did it in the 30s and again throughout the 70s and 80s.

The size of the government has nothing to do with any of these problem. The problem is the genre of the government. Republicans believe government is bad and do everything in their power to prove it.
