Just to be clear then, it doesn't matter to you that McCain was a speaker at an ACORN rally?

Here's what I found about that gathering - at least it appears to be what it was about, if the article I found was correct:

Quote:
Miami, Florida – February 20, 2006 - Leaders from a diverse array of sectors will hold a rally in Miami on Thursday, February 23, 2006, in support of comprehensive immigration reform in an effort to keep immigration reform at the forefront of the public debate. Leaders from both political parties, immigrant communities, labor, business, and religious organizations will gather to call on Washington to enact workable reform.

The rally will feature Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) as the headline speaker along with elected officials, immigrants and key local and national leaders. Sen. McCain is one of the chief sponsors of the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act; bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform legislation introduced last Congress and scheduled for consideration by the Senate in the coming weeks. A similar rally with Sen. McCain is planned for New York City on February 27.

It looks like that was the topic of the event McCain spoke at... not a voter registration effort. They must've shared similar views on immigrant issues.

ETA: If you'll recall, before this election cycle the Democrats would've said McCain was their favorite Republican, and McCain was also the Republican that Republicans were most leary of because the Democrats liked him. This must've been one of those crossover issues that put him in that centrist position in the minds of so many.

The rally in Miami is being sponsored by the New American Opportunity campaign (NAOC) in partnership with ACORN, Catholic Legal Services - Archdiocese of Miami, Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Miami Dade College, People for the American Way/Mi Familia Vota en Acción, Service Employees International Union, and UNITE HERE.

Just like in the other thread where someone posted a YouTube of McCain speaking where ACORN was represented in the audience. . .

YouTube - McCainAcorn

This is what I said in that thread but I will repeat it here:

Quote:
I don't see him telling ACORN they are swell. I do see ACORN sitting in a room with a lot of very worthy social groups, like Catholic Community Services. That's a shame considering what ACORN does, how it treats it's employees, how it snubs its nose at things we hold near and dear, like valid elections, how it is involved in embezzling government funds for the profit of the few within the Rathke family. ACORN is not what it appears to be at all.

Did you read the first link? The EPI is not a conservative group at all! And they have the most damaging things to say about ACORN. Groups like ACORN are really the worst in my opinion. They do bad things in the name of good. There will be a special place in hell for Mr. Rathke.

Here's the link to the EPI report I was referring to:
