Unintended consequences

If you haven't seen Michelle Bachmann Republican from Minnesota on Hardball last week, here's the video where she claims she's "worried" that Obama holds "Ant-American" views.
YouTube - Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) At Her Very Best

24 hours later, her opponent had received $488,000.

LOL -- I read somewhere that Planned Parenthood made a million dollars in donations the first few weeks after Sen. McCain announced who his VP would be. The bonus is that if you make the donation in her name and use the Virginia campaign headquarter's address, they send her a thank you note : )

I think all the negative ads are backfiring on McCain too. Colin Powell said the negative campaigning had an affect on him endorsing Obama instead of McCain. I know I saw my very first positive ad last night from McCain so I guess he is realizing this finally. I am being serious on this. All previous ads were attacking Obama. This one actually said what he stands for instead of smears on Obama. I didn't mind watching it. Obama has been almost entirely positive in the ads here in my part of NC. And he is even in the polls with McCain now. First time since 1976 that dems have a chance of taking NC. I am not holding my breath though. But I am hopeful. I was on the NC board of elections website the other day and saw that the dems now have over 800,000 more registered voters than repubs.

From fact check.org:

100% Negative?

Obama falsely claimed all of McCain's ads had been "negative."

Obama: And 100 percent, John, of your ads – 100 percent of them have been negative.

McCain: It's not true.

Obama: It absolutely is true.

It was almost true, for one recent week. Obama was referring to a report by the Wisconsin Advertising Project at the University of Wisconsin that concluded that “nearly 100 percent of the McCain campaign’s advertisements were negative” during the week of Sept. 28 through Oct. 4. During the same week, 34 percent of the Obama campaign’s ads were negative. The Obama campaign was found to have outspent the McCain campaign in nearly all of the competitive states, in some cases by a margin of more than 3-to-1.

McCain’s ads, however, have not been deemed 100 percent negative in other weeks. In fact, in the week after the Republican National Convention, 77 percent of Obama’s ads were negative, according to the advertising project, while 56 percent of McCain’s were negative.

I wonder if all of Obama's negative ads have been backfiring on him too.

As I said, in my part of NC, Obamas ads have been almost all positive while McCain have been all negative until last night. This means on my TV set, this is what I see. I never saw any ads in my part of the state until after the polls revealed that the race was so close here. Neither one was really campaigning here or bought ads because in the past it hasn't been necessary since this state has been red. Maybe you see something different on your TV.

LOL! I live in Washington. . .neither bothers to do much here. I have only seen one negative ad from Obama so far, it was the McCain wanting to take your social security one. . .no McCain ads at all. I'm assuming that will change though. However, I don't watch much tv.

That being said, the gubernatorial ads being run here are soooo negative. They're disgusting and I usually change the channel as soon as they start now. I suppose if I lived in a state where I was being bombarded with all these negative Presidential ads I would be disgusted too. The thing that I find sad is that they run these ads because they are effective. Just goes to show how many uneducated voters there are out there.

I posted what I did because there seems to be some kind of illusion that McCain is running more of these then Obama. . .and the numbers show that that's not the reality. They are both running them. McCain seems to have a higher percentage at times, but Obama out ads him 3 to 1, so even though his percentage of total ads is less. . .the number of negative ads is more.

Shortly after Bush got into office in '01, we had at similar drive and people donated to Planned Parenthood in Bush's name. They delivered thousands and thousands of thank you notes to him.

According to this article McCain cant afford to have both positive and negative ads so he does negative ones. Obama can afford both.

Yes, and let's not forget WHY Senator McCain can't spend as much as Obama........ They both agreed to take the same funding, and then BO went back on that promise. Gee, wonder what promises he'll go back on if he gets elected???? Maybe that big Health Care one??? Maybe those tax cuts to 95% of Americans (when only 68% even pay taxes....this shoudl be a good one).

Yeah. . .I've heard that before. The sad truth is that the negative ones are more effective. . .more bang for the buck. Sad but true.

ETA: I find it very interesting that McCain is able to stay. . .what? within 7 points of Obama? Considering the difference in the amount of money they are spending. It's just another example of why I think McCain will be a better steward. He already knows how be effective on a shoestring. . .something Obama hasn't shown.

More on Bachmann; her opponent has received more than a million dollars. The RNC has pulled support for her.

Here's a little short on her accomplishments.

You mean he likes to fight dirty. Whatever happens, the US is a split country. It is half democrat and half republican so of course the race is close. Oh BTW Obama is 10 points ahead nationally now. I still think it will close as the election comes nearer because as I said it is half and half.

Don't kid yourself. . .they ALL fight dirty.

Uh. . .I don't know what the poll average is for all national polls. . .but I'm sure you must have seen this today:

AP poll: Candidates running nearly even
Neck-and-neck results are a departure from many recent national polls

Amazing.
I heard Tinklenburg on a radio interview. He came off as a real nice, calm, humble guy. It was funny to hear about all the calls he received after the Hardball interview (he did not see it, but his Blackberry was ringing incessantly afterwards) and I'm sure the donations pouring in was a nice surprise.

The AP polle used a rather odd mix of people. 45% of those questioned were evangelicals, a group that comprised 23% of those who voted in the last 2 elections.
