Some days I almost feel sorry for John McCain. So many of the Republican defections list his terrible judgment in picking Palin. In one move, one craven choice, he lost so much of what he could have been and compromised completely what he'd worked 30 years for. If he'd had the guts to stand by his conviction and picked Lieberman or Ridge, he might actually be in a race now.
