Did Palin Help or Hurt The Ticket

When I first learned that McCain was naming Sarah Palin as VP, I said that it was the most incredibly stupid move McCain could have made. From my perspective, it was a move intended to appease the far right, which wasn't going to vote for Obama under anything other than the most extreme of circumstances (although it seems that this extreme case might now be true), and to appeal to Hillary supporters based solely upon genitalia. It was a Hail Mary throw.

But, Palin isn't of my party, so I'm not the best person to criticize her.

Do you think she was the right choice?

For me, I though Pawlenty was the better choice.

I agree with you. And, as a data point, my husband (loves, loves, loves McCain) officially declared he couldn't vote for McCain if she was the VP.

Then, I actually thought it was a brilliant move when I learned about the knocked up kid. I was just sure that, in true Eagleton fashion, she would back out and he would then pick a more appropriate (intelligent) VP pick. He would have then had the votes of the nutty right, who would have believed he really wanted her, and the middle right who would have been breathing a heavy sigh of relief. Personally, I think he actually might be winning the polls now if that is what had happened.

Win or lose, there are gonna be some great books written about his 2008 presidential run

I love her. I was thrilled when he picked her. She's a sweetie in person too.

Why? What is it about her that you think brings something to the ticket? Why do you "love her"?

Exactly the kind of person we need to fight off the terrorists and bring the economy back to some sort of order! Her sweetness will not bring the cost of groceries down. Are you kidding me.

Which of course, is nothing like the "adoration and fawning" which people always say Obama's supporters have, right?

Palin may bring a bit of that down home to the base but the base she is playing to is who would think sweet is enough.

She is what has lost this race for John and he knows it. I know I would. I think Sarah is looking forward to 2012 and will try to be on the ticket for the top spot. She is aggresive and very ambitious.
Her playing the "elite" against those whom she thinks are not elite and making the divide greater is what she is about. She is us against them which is not what we need now nor ever.

I don't think she is "sweet" at all. But I think that is what she hopes to be. You don't become a Gov by being sweet. And apparently you don't by being smart or well read or intererested in the rest of the world.

In short, she hurt McCain ticket. Badly. Everyone who has publicly left the Republicans to vote Democrat has said so. That has got to tell you something.

I believe that she hurt him. When I first heard her speak, I really thought she was great, I seen her interview with Gibson and I was like WTF?????You can not be serious. Then the truth came out about the bridge to nowhere, trooper gate, earmarks, and everthing else.

I didn't know you have spoken with her. What exactly is it that you feel will make her a world leader?

I think initially she gave a boost to her party. But once she started speaking--or not speaking as was much of the case--she hurt the ticket. I cannot her seriously ruminating about running for Pres.in 2012 when people right now question her intelligence
