You'll Be Happy to Hear, Hambirg

Barack Obama's grandmother has died.

Happy now? Do you need to see the body or the death certificate?

Editing to add Hambirg's original comment, so there will be no confusion about why I posted this. Some people don't bother to educate themselves before they go off on me.

Sad very sad. I just heard on the news. I was hoping that she would hang on, and see him win. My condolances to Barrack, and his family,

I have faith that she'll know if he wins and I'm just so sorry for him and his family that this will cast such a damper over his day. I know she must have been so very proud of him.

You even have to take the death of someone and use it to make a snarky comment. How truly, truly sad.

That's a shame she has died. I'm sure Obama is glad that he was able to see her before she passed. I'm glad for him and that he had the opportunity to see her.

The snarky comment was tit-for-tat on another post. It was sad that this was even a point to comment on in the first place. Glass houses, ladies and gents - glass houses.

It was a shame that she died on the eve of such an important day - win or lose - for her grandson.

That was such an uncalled for comment. What a sad person to say such a thing. Don't worry, if you want to bash me I won't reply.

Clearly, you didn't read Hambirg's comment -- or you're a hypocrite.

Apparently Hambirg's comments were fine with you, since you didn't feel the need to remark on them. Hambirg should be happy to know that, contrary to her suspicions, Obama wasn't faking his grandmother's illness for political gain.

Yet another uncalled for rude, snarky, nasty post. More of the same, except you forgot to call her a nasty name.

It doesn't matter what someone said in a completely different thread. I read Hambirg's comment. Leave it to you to harbor the resentment and remember exactly where the post was.

It's rude and disrespectful to say 'You'll be happy to hear...." But why should I expect anything different from you?

My condolences to Mr. Obama and his family. It's always hard to lose someone you're close to.

I believe that you will probably implode if McCain/Palin win. You have so much anger and resentment.

Truly a horribly sad day for Obama and his entire family. May God be with him in this especially trying, difficult and emotional time.

(first off - tone of voice is normal - not snarky here)

I'm one of "the people" aren't I?
I've known you for quite some time. This is not the first election we've been through together. To prove my point, I had to take you and a few others (a few I suspect of having duplicate identities) off my ignore list when I came to the elections board to start posting.
I'll have been a member for 10 years in a few months and I stand behind my Negative rep for this being "out of bounds".

Your retaliatory neg rep that you just gave me has been noted. Guess that's the price of standing up for what I believe are simple rules of decency.

I admire your tenacity, ferver, and dedication you've put into presenting much more than was deemed politically relevent on this board. I was educated, amused, and appalled at points along the way. I suffered through all of it because I could learn more about what made people like Obama so much.

This post, however, crossed a line for me personally.
We don't have to like each other, but we do need respect for each other for this board to work (glad the election is tomorrow). This post cost some of that respect.

I didn't see the indignation when Hambrig brought this little tidbit up -

"Want to make a bet that Obama's grandma. . .the one who's on her deathbed and isn't suppose to make it past election day lives well into 2009?! "

http://www.mycoupons.com/boards/elec...ml#post3079801

What was that comment about? I never got an answer to my question asking her to explain it. I don't feel like either comment was necessary and I find it slightly less than amusing that everyone would get all up in arms over what Truble posted but not at the original post that her post was a retort to.

Seems to me that there is enough finger pointing to go around. Those of you who were quiet when it was suggested that Obama was perhaps "faking" his visit to his grandmother (the one who held his birth certificate) sure were anxious to put in your two cents when you found out that she passed away. There is enough shame to go around.

Excellent post. You said everything that needs to be said about this.

Some people just don't know when to stop because they're filled with so much anger and hate. Like another poster said, I think she will implode if McCain/Palin win tomorrow.

Excuse me? I fully own that I may be putting words into hambirg's mouth since she hasn't tried to defend herself yet, but do you truly believe that any human being wouldn't feel badly about saying such a thing?

You might not remember me, but I DEFINITELY remember you!

Obviously we're talking about two different posters -- I was referring to Truble, the one who started this post. That's who people are referring to.

I was talking to Truble when I made my post. You'll notice I wasn't quoting anybody else and responding to their comments. I was responding to the OP.

I was referring to hambirgs comments in my post and assumed homer was too.

Well, people can't read your mind. It helps to put something in quotes so people will know who you're talking to or about.

Truble2301 I know that I do not have to come to here to defend you , however I will, it seems like people here whomever forget what Hambirg said about Obama's grandmother about her being on her so called deathbed and probably will lives well into 2009. Was or is Hambirg a doctor. I am so sorry for Obama about the lost of his grandmother, I am also happy he was able to see her before she passed, however I know in my heart she will be with him in spirit tomorrow when he wins and defeats McCain. It seems like everyone is harping on truble2301 for her statement, but no one seems to think that making fun of someone whom is dying is ok. Its not. So Truble2301 thank you for speaking the truth and believing in your thoughts . Catherine

Just to set the record straight, Hambrig made the comment and I was the first one to respond. So, in a way, I guess you can say we started it...in another thread.

I jumped on Hambrig earlier for implying that it may be a conspiracy....but, I think you are all taking it a bit far. No one really expected his grandmother to die today...and maybe it was in poor taste earlier, but to use it as fodder for a thread war is really sad.

If you've never stepped in it before, please carry on....if so, glass houses ladies, glass houses.

What was tasteless about Hambirgs original post? She doubted granny was sick...so what. If Obama wasn't so secretive about so much of his life...birth certificate, college records, health records, associations ect...maybe we wouldn't be so skeptical of him.

truble2301 comment was tasteless because to suggest anyone would be happy over someones death is tasteless.

I don't 'admire' it. I think the tenacity, fervor, and dedication she's put into her never ending hate postings make her a mental case. Her dislike crossed over into hate that crossed over into obsession. She needs a good psychiatrist. Most of us like or dislike a candidate but Truble2301 HATES, HATES, HATES any Republican candidate. It doesn't matter what they do or don't do. She's very basic. She thinks any Democrat is good and all Republicans are evil. Who else here has the time or desire to scour the Internet and post hundreds of stupid threads insulting the opposing candidate? Every day, she posts something negative, anything she can think of to denigrate them and no perceived flaw is too minute to dissect! And she's getting worse! Hard to believe that it's possible but she's more petty and bitter now than when this board opened!

So Hambirg doubted Obama's grandmother was as sick as Obama said. Not unreasonable of her since Obama hasn't exactly been a poster child for honesty. But Truble2301 used that woman's death to start a whole thread to call Hambirg on one offhand remark and that IS unreasonable. Good God, it's more than unreasonable. It's mental.

Truble2301's supposed to be a wife, mother, and attorney? If that's true, her job and family get terribly short thrift because she spends all her energy on political hate postings. Each day has seen her grow increasingly more bitter. There's more to life than politics and she's wasted SO much time she can't reclaim hating candidates that don't give a damn about her. I hope when this election is over, she gets the help she obviously needs.

Ok. . .I will never be shamed into questioning anything that appears questionable to me. I never said he shouldn't have made the trip. . . in fact I think that I said I didn't care that he used his plane to go see her. I'm sorry she died. I think she sounded like a neat lady. However, it became questionable when a report is released by the state of Hawaii shortly after his trip. I will continue to question things that suggest questionabilty, no amount of shaming will ever prevent me from doing that.

Btw truble. . .what would make you think I would be happy she died? It seems to me you are the one who is happy she died before the election, so you could gleefully post about the poor woman's death, to squelch any suspicions about his trip. "See, see! She died!!! Woo hoo! You were wrong!" Sad. . .truly sad.

Lucy, put down your cup of kool-aid and focus here. It's not the issue of right vs. wrong. It's the issue of HATE-filled posts over and over, every single day. Can you not see that? Sure everyone gets pissy once in a while, but Tammy has gone over the top on so many occasions. I've been here since before the first Bush election and it was bad back then w/ some her posts. It's increased 10-fold since then. I know Tammy is a very bright and educated person. I think most of us would really appreciate it if she could learn to vocalize her concerns and issues in a less vicious manner. I honestly cannot recall reading anything she pasted about that is positive in any form or fashion.

Very good post TraciLM. You hit the nail on the head! Everyone is entitled to their opinions but hate and vile speech is totally uncalled for.

Because they like to criticize in you, me, and others what they exhibit themselves on a daily basis. It's a major pot-kettle problem.

truble2301 you hit the nail on the head with that great post. It seems they cannot be themselves if they cannot be mean spriited. It seems truble that we the liberals are only the trouble makers and heaven for bid not the conservatives, oh no they are all goodie two shoes.I think what it truly comes down to is that they cannot admit Bush was the worst president ever and also they cannot admit that perhaps our country needs a serious change. I will not put up with any more name calling anymore, state your point , by do not get nasty and certainly for me and I will say it again because for me its totally personal to pick on someone who has lossed a dear love one is as low as you can steep and Marilynk thats for you.Catherine

its = it's
lossed = lost

You should read a few of truble's posts when you talk about name calling. She calls frequently.

Well, Lucy, here's why:

"Drinking the Kool-Aid"
The earliest known use of the term in its figurative, non-literal context (that is, outside descriptions of people actually drinking real Kool-Aid), is from a 1987 quote about former Washington, D.C., mayor Marion Barry in the Washington Post.

The term is derived from the 1978 cult suicide in Jonestown, Guyana. Jim Jones, the leader of the Peoples Temple, persuaded his followers to move to Jonestown. Late in the year he ordered his followers to commit suicide by drinking grape-flavored Flavor Aid laced with potassium cyanide. A camera from inside the compound shows a large chest being opened, clearly showing boxes of both Flavor Aid and Kool-Aid.[6] There is also testimony from criminal investigators at the Jonestown inquest stating that there were "cool aid" [sic] packets there.[7] It is unknown whether these are a reference to the Kool-aid brand packets from the trunk, or simply a generic use of the more popular brand for the product. In what is now commonly called the "Jonestown Massacre", a large majority of the 913 people later found dead drank the brew. (The discrepancy between the idiom and the actual occurrence is likely due to Flavor Aid's relative obscurity, compared to the easily recognizable Kool-Aid.) An earlier usage than 1987 can be attested at least as early as 1982 in the film "The Slumber Party Massacre" by Amy Holden Jones. In the scene where Valerie 'Val' Bates prepares Kool-Aid, she offers a glass to her sister and says "As the famous Jim Jones once said: 'should have been drinking Kool-Aid'".

The saying "Do not drink the Kool-Aid" now commonly refers to the Jonestown tragedy, meaning "Do not trust any group you find to be a little on the kooky side," or "Whatever they tell you, do not believe it too strongly."[8] Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly is famous for using the term in this manner.[9]

Having "drunk the Kool-Aid" also refers to being a strong or fervent believer in a particular philosophy or mission — wholeheartedly or blindly believing in its virtues.
