Obama passed legislation with Republican Senator Jim Talent to give gas stations a tax credit for installing E85 ethanol refueling pumps. The tax credit covers 30 percent of the costs of switching one or more traditional petroleum pumps to E85, which is an 85 percent ethanol/15 percent gasoline blend.

-After a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

-His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent.

-Obama created the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income working families in 2000 and successfully sponsored a measure to make the credit permanent in 2003. The law offered about $105 million in tax relief over three years.

-Obama joined forces with former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-IL) to pass the toughest campaign finance law in Illinois history. The legislation banned the personal use of campaign money by Illinois legislators and banned gifts from lobbyists. Before the law was passed, one organization ranked Illinois worst among 50 states for its campaign finance regulations.

-As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan.

-He traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world.

-Obama has been a leading advocate for protecting the right to vote, helping to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act and leading the opposition against discriminatory barriers to voting.

- In the U.S. Senate, Obama introduced the STOP FRAUD Act to increase penalties for mortgage fraud and provide more protections for low-income homebuyers, well before the current subprime crisis began.

-Obama sponsored legislation to combat predatory payday loans, and he also was credited with lobbied the state to more closely regulate some of the most egregious predatory lending practices.

-Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 to provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintain their corporate headquarters in America; pay decent wages; prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military.

-Obama worked to pass a number of laws in Illinois and Washington to improve the health of women. His accomplishments include creating a task force on cervical cancer, providing greater access to breast and cervical cancer screenings, and helping improve prenatal and premature birth services.

-Obama has introduced and helped pass bipartisan legislation to limit the abuse of no-bid federal contracts.

-Obama and Senator Feingold (D-WI) took on both parties and proposed ethics legislation that was described as the "gold standard" for reform. It was because of their leadership that ending subsidized corporate jet travel, mandating disclosure of lobbyists' bundling of contributions, and enacting strong new restrictions of lobbyist-sponsored trips became part of the final ethics bill that was signed into law.

I'm sorry but did I miss him putting an end to the war? How exactly? Gee....wonder if my friend stationed in San Diego is aware that Obama is putting an end to the war.

I know what Obama says he's going to do, but the proof will be when he actually does it. Planning is great, but implementing those plans is another story!

Goodie for you! I hope that I'm wrong on this one, but no matter who wins, I don't think we'll see an end to this war any time soon. Again I hope I'm wrong.

And please don't flatter yourself goofy girl....I post on subject matter that I find interesting or have something to say about. I don't go looking for your name or post on everything you post on.

Earlier I said I pity you---I'm coming to the realization that you are just stupid. You aren't concerned about bettering yourself, or hearing anything that goes against your opinion. I bet you stick your fingers in your ears and go La, La, La, La, when people try to tell you things you don't want to hear.
I swear---get over you dumbass self already!

I do believe that he will move "some" of the troops out of Iraq BUT..they will be placed somewhere else. (ETA: Some troops will stay to maintain the "big" bases in Iraq)
Obama has made no secret that he indeeds to put 5,000 + soliders dealing with Afghanistan.
He will also have to deal with Syria and Pakistan. And do not forget about Iran.

and then there is Korea and/or Vietnam--they could rattle their sabers anytime now as well. It's all just a game of Chinese Checkers....

Unhappy

MArilynk wow your last post about me spoke volumns low and clear just how rude and a mean spirited person you really are. I wonder how your personal life is, since I recall your so much sympathy for the women who posted on the cafe about her husband leaving her because of her biopolar condition. Now mind you I do not agree with anyone being subjected to any form of abuse whether it be mental or physically, however my reading your statement to her was not so nice. Mental illiness is real. like I posted under her thread and wrote I know from experience because I have suffered with panic and anxiety attacks all my life and have been on meds to help me cope. I am not ashamed to admit it at all. But thanks to God I do have a wonderful dh almost 25 years and he while times were hard in the beginning never left myside. Now I realize this is not the topic we are discussing, however to call me a dumbass, just proved how mean you can be. Also do not take me for a fool and claim you choose to discuss a post where you feel you have interest, you have posted under my posts more then I can count. I have asked you before not to, but then I would be a hyprocrite, because I certainly feel this is a free country and you may post where you feel. But again I totally believe your last post and comments were rude... However again its your choice to post, I cannot stop you, however I sincerely hope you feel better you called me that name.. Fair is fair , we may not always agree and I know in this case we must agree to disagree but stop with the name calling to which you have done to me too many times to mention.... Catherine

Catherine,
if I bother you so, then IGNORE me. Put me on your ignore list. You do not have to read my posts. The IGNORE feature really does work. I have a couple people on IGNORE. In fact, I believe that you qualify to be put on that list. I can no longer stand to see your idiotic, self-absorbed, ignorant, incoherent ramblings!

I'm sorry that you did not comprehend what I said in another post. I'm not going to rehash it here. I'm blunt and to the point. Yeah, I'm sure many people think it's rude. But I can tell you this--everyone that knows me, knows where they stand with me; Because I am blunt and to the point. Get over yourself already! This world does not revolve around you, your posts, your problems or your brother! Good Grief. My 8 y/o DS has more common sense and grammar skills than you do.
Have a nice day. And if your candidate loses, try to show some modicum of respect and dignity....

From his own website:

Under the Obama-Biden plan, a residual force will remain in Iraq

And what you are claiming is what Obama said in the beginning of his run, but he has changed his tune. You are going to be sorely disappointed :

Obama, whatever the idealistic yearnings of his admirers, has turned out to be a cold-eyed, shrewd politician. The same pragmatism that prompted him last month to forgo public financing of his campaign will surely lead him, if he becomes President, to recalibrate his stance on Iraq. He doubtless realizes that his original plan, if implemented now, could revive the badly wounded Al Qaeda in Iraq, reënergize the Sunni insurgency, embolden Moqtada al-Sadr to recoup his militia’s recent losses to the Iraqi Army, and return the central government to a state of collapse. The question is whether Obama will publicly change course before November. So far, he has offered nothing more concrete than this: “We must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in.”

Obama’s advisers have been more forthcoming. Samantha Power, before she resigned from the campaign for making an indiscreet remark about Hillary Clinton, told the BBC, “He will, of course, not rely upon some plan that he’s crafted as a Presidential candidate or a U.S. senator. He will rely upon a plan—an operational plan—that he pulls together in consultation with people who are on the ground.” Last month, the Center for a New American Security, which has become something like Obama’s foreign-policy think tank, released a report that argued against a timetable for withdrawal, regardless of the state of the war, and in favor of “conditional engagement,” declaring, “Under this strategy, the United States would not withdraw its forces based on a firm unilateral schedule. Rather, the time horizon for redeployment would be negotiated with the Iraqi government and nested within a more assertive approach to regional diplomacy. The United States would make it clear that Iraq and America share a common interest in achieving sustainable stability in Iraq, and that the United States is willing to help support the Iraqi government and build its security and governance capacity over the long term, but only so long as Iraqis continue to make meaningful political progress.” It’s impossible to know if this persuasive document mirrors Obama’s current thinking, but here’s a clue: it was co-written by one of his Iraq advisers, Colin Kahl.

Reading this post just reminds me how scary Obama followers are. Note I said 'followers'. You act like he's a god or something -- your quote "America will soon come free from all the trouble....." "Obama and Biden will lead us.." "we will rise up high". Gosh, girl, you really have been drinking the kool-aid. That kind of talk is just downright out scary.

I have to agree. The unrealistic expectaions put upon Obama by some of his supporters are nuts. Did you hear the one of the woman on the radio. . .in Florida, I think. . .saying when Obama gets elected she won't have to worry about paying her mortgage or feeding her family??? Who wants to tell her that she is still going to have to do those things? Not I!

Ok Marilynk I have had it with you,,,,,,, you hit a all time loooooooooowwwww by mentioning my brother Sonny who passed away and is not here to defend himself. Truly whomever you are, your a mean mean spirited person totally blunt as you put it and to mention someone who was so dear to my heart, truly speaks for who you are, a rude troubled person, I would never ever stoop as low as you have to mention my brother, what is wrong with you. Finally to compare me to your 8 year old is pathetic but none worse then mentioning my beloved Brother, my you never know the feeling of lossing someone you loved so much........ I hope you happy cause now you made me cry, again no sympathy never from you. I am finished with you............................................... ........

You know, I am a Obama supporter, not "follower" as you put it. I am not scary and I think for myself. I am sick of Republicans talking about the koolaid and acting like I'm stupid for supporting Obama. Guess what I find that so disrespectful and childish. I have not insulted anyone to this point for suppoting McCain but am starting to feel maybe I should've to fit in around here. I'm so sick of some of you people here lumping everyone that doesn't agree with you into a group that you deem stupid, followers, koolaid drinkers, uninformed, blah, blah, blah. Grow up people and act like adults. Seriously, there are so many things I'd love to say to and about McCain supporters but have kept my mouth shut out of respect. Maybe some of you should do the same.
