Spin off from long lines-kinda

The post about the people waiting in line, and watching the TV and seeing the long lines. Dont you think its great. I think for a long time people in this country have taking thier right to vote for granted. I turned 18 in 1986, but did not reg to vote until the 92 elections. Did you register to vote as soon as you turned 18? If you have been voting for awhile, how much longer are the lines?

The last election I had to wait almost 40 minutes, before that election I never had to wait, just walk in and went right to the booth.

One of the polling places here had people lined up down the street and around the corner. I've never seen that before. Usually it's like me an two old people.

We rarely have a long line...maybe 10 ppl ahead of me at most. I live in a very small town, I'm actually counting on one of the workers ( I know most of them) watching the baby for me while I vote!! :0) Ahhh, the perks of a small town. lol

Maybe it will be different today, I'll let you know. The thing is, there are only so many ppl here, so I doubt there will be a difference.

I usually syand in line 30 minutes to an hour. Today there was no line at all. The poll worker told me that they had lines earlier but that they weren't very long.

Maybe early voting cut the wait time.

Well, we went to three different polling places (long story but let's just say that my husband doesn't know everything) there were long lines. I have heard that there is at least a three hour wait as of 11 this morning and I am sure that as soon as the work day is over, it will be worse. I am not sure if it is always like this in South Carolina or if it is because of the nature of the election. It is wonderful to see so many young people involved though. From those passing out stickers to those in line. It warms my heart to see them so interested in the way of the country.

I know that the news here has stated that this election has put a fire under those people who until now have felt marginalized and didn't feel they had a voice or a choice in the election. They are the ones who have come out in droves here in SC. It is about time that everyone had an opportunity to be a part of the process and feel a part of the process. It is about inclusion not exclusion. A reporter quoted a college aged person a few minutes ago who said something about being about the change in the way America feels about itself or something like that. My young boy liked that.

The minority vote is one that is making a difference this year, they say. That is wonderful. I don't care why or who they are voting for but the fact that they are voting and can say they participated is something that my son has fought for. It is an exciting time.

I think it's great that so many people are actually getting involved in voting this year. I was watching on TV and saw the long lines in some of the cities and I've never seen anything like it in my lifetime (and I've been voting a long time!)

I was taking a high school government class when Kennedy was running. I was probably 16 or so. He was going to speak at a large downtown auditorium and our class got to go and sit in the balcony. Afterwards some of us rushed to the side door and stood on a line that led from the door to the cars. He walked within inches of me and I was so smitten that as soon as I could vote, I did and I haven't stopped.
