Oh I think it's about over. Congrats to Obama! Regardless of his politics, it is kind of exciting to see.

Yes. . .it appears that he won. I truly hope that he delivers on what he promised to the people. If not. .. you know who will be reminding you of the fact that he didn't.

Seriously, I hope he makes good on his word.

Jaded, do your kids really grasp the significance of that sentence? I'm fairly sure my grandkids don't. I'm not sure their father does at the age of 37. His parents probably do.

What a momentous occasion in history!

I liked how McCain stood up for Obama against the boos. I also thought his speech was very nice.

My oldest does. M does, but only b/c we've talked about it over and over. She went w/ us to vote this morning. J has no clue, although she does know the names of both candidates and who they are when shown on tv.

McCain's concession speech was heartfelt and very classy.

Wasn't it nice to not have to wait for the results from one state to see who won?

Congratulations to Obama and his supporters. He (or McCain, if he had won) has a long rough road ahead of him, now lets see what he can do.

Speaking of long, rough roads that is how my day has been. I have been at work 16 hours and have 10 more to go before I can head home and to bed. We are still waiting on 2 precincts to report so we can finish our story, lay it out and get it on press.

What a long, but exciting day this has been.

Interesting. When Sen. McCain mentioned President Elect Obama in his concession speech, people in the crowd booed. When Obama mentioned McCain in his speech, people cheered.

Obviously, J is way too young. It's good that T gets it.

It concerns me that kids have no idea (other than what they learn in school) what transpired in the 60's, no real concept of who Rosa Parks is and the courage she showed, no clue about the Little Rock 9, no idea who Freedom Riders or Medgar Evars are, no idea how much was sacrificed to get to this point. I don't want my grandkids to think this is no big deal. I want them to know exactly what a big deal it is.

DD took her 10 yr old to vote with her this morning. She tried to explain the significance.

Ya know what though? Maybe it's good that each new generation might not get it. Maybe that means that the ugliness of past decades is diminishing.

T had tears in his eyes last night at the rally when Obama walked on stage.

I was thinking the same thing Nance. Most people under 30 do not see color, gender or sexuality. Just people.

I am beyond awed and inspired by this election. I pray for wisdom of all in the coming trying times ahead. I DO see Change, and POSITIVE change to come.

I, also, was very appreciative of the respectful and classy concession speech that McCain gave. I, too, saw in this speech the "old" McCain from earlier elections for whom I had much respect. I have absolutely zero doubt that McCain and P.Elect Obama will work very well together.

GodBless the U.S.A. and keep our leaders safe.

Wow, that is truly an honor to earn Mr. McCain's respect. That is a very generous gift from the opponent of our new President.

Quote:
"But that he managed to do so by inspiring the hopes of so many millions of Americans who had once wrongly believed that they had little at stake or little influence in the election of an American president is something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving."
I hope Mr. McCain realizes he should share in the credit for this achievement. He also inspired voters to realize how strong their voices can truly be.

Obama gave a great speech.

This was my favorite part:

Quote:
To those who would tear the world down: We will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security: We support you. And to all those who have wondered if America's beacon still burns as bright: Tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope.
I also liked the end:

Quote:
This is our time, to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.

Thank you. God bless you. And may God bless the United States of America.

It was our dashed hopes and dreams from the 2004 election, Catherine.

86 = no more, all gone

43 = the 43rd President of the U.S - George W. Bush

What a wonderful night!

McCain's speech was excellent, very gracious. It was like the old McCain, and wonderful to see.

I have faith that Obama will be the uniter we need.

What a night. The speeches told a lot about the different parties. The Rep booed at the mention of the winner and the Dems cheered. Says a lot about the campaign and the supporters.

What a historic night. The young newly minted Navy and Marine Officers at my house were excited and thrilled at the election. They were glad it was clear and concise as to who won and there was no question who the country wanted.

Awesome. It was so touching to see John McCain give his speech and you could feel that he meant every word. Class is what he has.

Yes yes amen his speech will go down in history my thoughts and views and tears exactly. Omg how come I am so emotional over this. I listened to every word his spoke, I truly loved what he said about his wife Michelle and their 2 daughters as well. But more then his speech which was so wonderful, was to see the crowds of people and their tears in their eyes told us as a Nation the whole story, those people in the crowds did not speak, but the looks and expessions on their faces and their tears told the whole story... Peace... Catherine

It is a great opportunity for both sides to work together....and based on what I heard last night, it looks like there might be a real chance.

What I'm most excited about is party reform on both sides.

It was a downright tear jerker. As a human being, I felt disappointment for him in that he has given so much to this country, and was so hopeful to help pull her from the down slope we're in (even tho I don't think it's as bad as it is being portrayed on TV, but, anyway....) and you could just hear the disappointment in his voice. I felt especially bad for him when he said the failure is his.......

He's a man with nothing to be ashamed of. I think he has been an honorable man and has owned up to everything questioned about him. He has done a lot in the Senate, and for personal reasons I would hope he stays in the Senate, but, I would also like him to retire and enjoy time with his family and friends.

I would be ecstatic to meet either Senator McCain or President Elect Obama.

nancy, that is what I think, as well. DD has never said anything or inferred anything about the Obamas being a different skin color than she is. She wanted Hillary Clinton, but, then wanted Obama "he's for education, Mom", she would say. I do think that the newer generations are not as "in touch" with the issues of the 60's since they are several years removed from it. I think it's a good thing.
