It's begun.
An expected boom of babies named after President-elect Barack Obama started last night with newborn Sanjae Obama Fisher, Memorial Regional Hospital officials said today.
Baby Obama was born about 8 p.m. to Patrick and Sasha Hall Fisher, of Miramar, hospital spokeswoman Marla Oxenhandler said. He weighs 7 pounds, 8 ounces and is 18-1/2 inches long.
It was dad 's idea to give Sanjae the famous middle name, even before Election Day, Oxenhandler said.
The Fishers, who have three children, stood on line last week to vote early.
Patrick. Fisher waited for five hours to cast his vote, while his pregnant wife waited for 45 minutes.
"She had an inkling he might be born on Election Day," Oxenhandler, after speaking with the proud parents this morning.
Sasha Fisher went to the hospital about 6:30 a.m., delivered 14 hours later, and still managed to watch Barack Obama get elected president on television.
"She was able to still catch the results," Oxenhandler said.
Baby Sanjae's siblings are sister Shaniah, 8, and brother Shane, 4.
