I just heard that, and I think he was rather nervous, and it just kind of came out. He apologized, let's move on. Seriously, it is going to be a LONNNNNNGGGGGGG four years if we pick apart everything this man does.

Personally, I can not live the next four years of my life pointing out every snafu that Obama makes. Channel that energy into helping get the Republican party back on track. Write your legislators, all that stuff.

| Obama apologizes to Nancy Reagan for seance remark - CNN.com CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan on Friday to apologize for a remark about seances he made during his first news conference earlier in the day. President-elect Barack Obama's spokeswoman syas he apologized to Nancy Reagan for "offhanded remark." When a reporter asked Obama if he had spoken with any ex-presidents since his election on Tuesday, he responded that he had spoken to all former presidents "that are living." "I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any seances," he said. Nancy Reagan, wife of 40th President Ronald Reagan, was derided in 1988 when his former chief of staff Donald Regan revealed in a book that the first lady had consulted an astrologer to determine the president's schedule. Obama apologized to Reagan "for the careless and offhanded remark," Obama transition team spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said. Watch Obama make the seance remark » "The president-elect expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share and they had a warm conversation," Cutter said. President Reagan died in 2004 at 93. Other first ladies have reportedly used spiritual advisers. In his 1996 book, "The Choice," Washington Post editor and writer Bob Woodward said that as first lady, Sen. Hillary Clinton had seance-like sessions at the White House during which she conversed with late first lady Eleanor Roosevelt. At the time, the White House said the sessions were not seances. Abraham Lincoln's wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, was rumored to have held seances at the White House in order to contact her two dead sons, Eddie and Willie. She also reportedly went to seances under an assumed name after the president's death to attempt to contact him. Immediately after the seance remark, Obama said he had "re-read some of Lincoln's writings, who's always an extraordinary inspiration" and mentioned that former Presidents Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush and current President George W. Bush "have all been very gracious and offered to provide any help that they can in this transition process." |

| Something about talking and getting advice from past presidents. Then, he made a very bad joke about channeling Reagan or something. Poor humor. At one point, Mrs. Reagan used a psychic, but that could have been a rumor, I don't know. Anyway, he recognognized or was told his comment was offensive and he is reported to have called her and apologized.

He was trying to make light of something and it just didn't work. It really wasn't as big a deal as everyone wants to make it out to be. You would think he was joking about national security or something along those lines. He spoke to Nancy Reagan and all is well. No harm no foul. |

Well all us liberals wouldn't have said a word if Sarah Palin had tried the lighthearted joke because we all expect her to say anything that pops into her head - right or wrong. |

What an ass! Insulting Nancy Reagan! face it barry, you suck at humor, don't bother trying that route again, you failed so miserably you had to make a formal apology. |

food for thought Unfortunately, the precedent has been set here where it is considered acceptable to call the President of the US derogatory names. The community (and MyCoupons.com is considered a community, is it not?) has clearly deemed it appropriate to call the POTUS all sorts of vile, rude, disgusting, obscene, and otherwise obnoxious things. The board here tolerates this behavior. |

| I don't think it was so lighthearted. It wasn't extremely tasteless, but it sure sounded arrogant.

I think it was a spontaneous thought, tacky but not meant to intentionally insult Mrs. Reagan. He apologized which was the right thing to do. Case closed. Seriously, you guys cannot complain on one hand that the libs tore President Bush apart every chance they got and now do the same thing to Obama. That's hypocricy. Quit bitching about the little things and focus on the larger picture. Nitpicking on everything he says or does no matter how petty, does nothing to further your cause.
