All through the campaign, people said it was not about Obama's color of his skin, but about his associations, his "palling around with terrorists", his socialism, his missing birth certificate, was he a muslim?, his name but in reality as evidenced by the two or so posters here who are very vocal, it was about race all the time.

I'm surrounded by people who don't even try to hide it, they'll tell you they wouldn't vote for him because he's black. (I wish I could afford to move back to NJ. )

Although they're not quite as common as the "I'm not a racist but....(insert blatantly racist comment here)" people. That would be the majority that I run into.

Making an observation is all. We kept being told that it wasn't because Obama was black it was because of the issues and because of his associations with Bill Ayers etc. Since the election, it hasn't been at all. It makes me sad. I didn't think that I couldn't start a thread. I will try and not do it again.

The reason I believe this thread was started is, because its plain and simple. there are a few on this board who will not stop with racist comments and all the associations Obama Barack has, with all him being a thug, with all the people he assocaites with are thugs, Reverand Wrigth, Acorn, Jennifer Gramholm now being called a thug.. If they would stop all these accusations, perhaps, jsut perhaps we would not have to start another thread. Are we suppossed to just sit back and take it all over and over again. For me, race was never an issue at all.

I have voiced my fear, after he was elected, of what I am afraid might happen because of his race. I also voiced that since their camp over and over said their platform was not about race, how upset I was that those who voited for him, held commentaries that were completely racially motivated.

Look, I am not racist. Far from it. But I am also a realist, and understand that even in this day and age, there are those that are hate filled in so many ways. Whether they have hate for a certain political party or hate of a person just because of the color of their skin. Heck, we even have prejudice amongst stay at home moms vs. working moms!

To ask a fair question, about rumours that have been flying around, I believe is not being racist, but simply asking to find the ways to the truth, from the people who may know.

What I despise is feeling as if I can't ask, or share my opinion, for fear that it may place me in a defensive position. Which I have felt at times on this board (but not too often, because most I just overlook).

Do I trust Obama? I am not sure! I didn't vote for him, for this very same reason..all of the shadow of doubt and what I have perceived to be a cloud of secrecy. Level with me, and I will respect you more than you know.. dance around an issue, answer back with degredation, and you will find that you have lost the respect I have for an intelligent, civil conversation. This goes for both sides. I have seen bashing from both ends, for what reasons?

People, what it all boils down to is, we all fall under the veil of being an American. Even with our differences, we are unique and have much to contribute-even if it is a small contribution.

The fighting, the hatred, the open display of ridicule, shows that we have, and probably never will, move forward from the stalemate we have grown accustomed. Obama asked for change. You all heeded this, and agreed to it. But yet, at the same time, change seems to be the last thing you would ever consider doing or considering.
I speak this for all of us, not just some or one. I am also included.

So, can we just debate with civility and an apprecaition for our difference of opinions? Is that too much to ask?

I can truthfully tell you that if both candidates had been presented to me on paper only WITHOUT photos, eloquent speeches, and even without Party Affiliation displayed at the top , I know I would have still voted the way I did.

If all I had was a dossier based on what each had shared about themselves(books and interviews), past work experience, past and current affiliations, character assessment, and their future vision for the USA,
My Vote would have still landed in the same spot.


I hope my actions and discussions on this board have made that much clear.

I'm sorry you have mental health issues. I hope you are getting therapy. I've had panic attacks since I was 20 but Zoloft got rid of them completely and I was having them daily. It's a tough life to live with panic attacks with no relief. I've been on it for about 6 years and have no intention of ever going back to that way of life! As far as your grammar, etc... it is a problem for many on here; sometimes your posts don't flow very well at all and I'm sure after awhile it irritates people. I didn't make fun of you-I wrote that what Opal posted explains some of this. It was a benign statement, not judgmental so calm down!

No one has ever made fun of your mental illness. I am quite serious when I say that your medication needs to be altered.
