We just got back from the Veteran's DAy parade. It was very moving, and I had a lady sit next to me, all by herself....older woman. She had her DH's dog tags and held them up when any floats with veterans came by. There was also a woman on the other side of me who walked up to almost every military member in the parade and asked to shake their hand. Everyone was thanking the veterans for their service.

The turnout was not very large, sadly. I was glad to see people standing at attention when the US Flag came by. I tried to get a picture of one of the guys on the right side of me who was elderly, and had his Vetaran's ball cap on.....people kept coming up to him, in the parade, and giving him things. One of the schools had the kids make cards, so he got one of those, and a lady came up to give him a heart felt thank you, and a hand print picture drawn by the kids, and she kissed him on the cheek. I tried to get a picture of it, but the lady with the dog tags had a little flag, and it was right in the shot.....can't complain about it, tho.

Great Day!!! DD's band performed in the parade, too. They were awesome, if I do say so myself.

For anyone who wants to put their time and/or money where their "thanks" is ----- please consider thanking our veterans with more than words.

I started a feature in our paper about a year ago where people can send in pictures and information of veterans and active military and we put it all together and print it in our paper the week of Veterans Day for free.

It is touching to see how many of these people, veterans especially, go out of their way to stop in or call and just say "Thank You" for doing it. It really touches them that someone still cares.

It is pretty interesting too. They include when and where they served, rank, how they are related to people in the community and many tell a short story of some sort about their experiences.

I have to say that this is on of my favorite pet projects!

Also, the kids at our school had a Veterans Day assembly yesterday. They invited all veterans to come have lunch with them, then, for the assembly, select kids escorted the veterans to their seat of honor. Area military donated MRE's and the kids had an opportunity to trade their lunch for the day for an MRE. It was pretty cool. That is all my son talked about when he came home last night.
