Question What is your best Garage Sale Find?

Last summer, I went to a community GS in a very upscale part of the city. I picked up a pair of size 11 Manolo Blahniks for $4! Since I am a size 8, I listed them on ebay! $125 later I was VERY happy!

What about you?

I have never bought anything that good before but I am happy with a lot of the purchases I have made. I have bought a ton of name brand, nice clothes for my kids before at yard sales for .25 each. I recently bought my daughter a very nice Fisher Price slide for $5. Last year I got an expensive set of Party Light candle holders for a $1.00 still in the box. My husband got a nice welder (new was $500.00) for $50. Oh.....at the same yard sale as the welder, I got a bird bath (big, concrete) for $5.

although we are probly ganna sell one of the car seats because we already had one. now we have three. and only one car. ) lol

also when my 5 year old daughter was a baby i got 2 boxes full of baby clothes for a $1 that was pretty nice too.

Please clarify about this board, the rules read that this is a TRADE board, nowhere do I see it listed that this board is for discussions. Trade? Discussions? Both?

aanibus,

Thanks for your concern. We have been discussing ways to make this board even better. One of the ideas we came up with was to open a dialogue with one another to discuss what many of us love about garage sale-ing. We thought it would be a nice way to get to know one another by way of common interest.

Obviously this is new and somewhat of a test. Yes the Garage Sale Board is for trading, and since we just reopened we found this the pefect way to continue the celebration of our re-opneing. After all this is the Garage Sale Board and this thread is directly related to Garage Sales.

Will we eventually allow Garage Sale related discussion on this board? I do not know! For now the only threads that we will allow to remain that are not trade-specific will be those started by myself and other McLeaders. We are merely "testing the waters" to see what works. I will, of course, keep all users of the GS board updated on any changes as they occur.

I hope this helps to clarify your confusion. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to email me.

I am ALWAYS open to suggestions on how ALL members think we can make the Mycoupons.com GS Board the BEST place to trade on the 'net!

All members, I kindly request that this be the end of the discussion on this matter. Please keep this thread ONLY for discussions pertaining to your Garage Sale finds.

my best garage sale find was a 1943 fishing tackle catalog that was in the "free" box! I sold it on ebay for $50

I found a Baby Bjorn baby carrier for $5. It was the latest model and hardly used. These go for $85 at Babies R Us. I used it and two of my friends have also used it and it's still going strong -- the best $5 I've spent recently!

I've got a ton! I guess the best would be an antique quilt that is all hand down in a bird design. The lady sold it to me for $2.00.

A few weeks before I left for college, I found a couch and loveseat combo at a garage sale. My sister (new apartment) took the couch. I took the loveseat to college. I don't remember what the total was but I ended up paying $12.50 for the loveseat. I used the loveseat all through college. When I got out, I left it at the Christian fellowship where I hung out and lived. When I dropped by for a visit about a year ago, it was still there and still being used.

Also, in early high school, I found a CSC Mathematical Handbook at a garage sale. I wasn't entirely sure what it was, but I knew that CSC made expensive (and useful) chemistry and physics handbooks. I bought it for $0.25. I used it a little in my calc class in high school, but it really came in handy when I got to college (where it became known as my "magic green book"). I still use the book fairly regularly at work.

At my church garage sale a few months ago, I found a barely worn Georgia Tech sweatshirt (where I went to school). Since we were closing up, they let me have it for free. I also found a pair of TCU flip flops that I bought for one of my kids who recently got a full ride to TCU. (I'm a volunteer youth leader, so the kids are mine but I'm not their parent.) They were priced at $0.25. She was so happy when I gave them to her. Her first piece of TCU clothing. She wears them pretty much all the time.

One of my favorites was baby clothes. For some reason garage sales were slow that day and mid-morning the woman still had TONS of name brand, like new baby clothes (and other things) left. She was ready to get rid of them and told me 10 cents for each OUTFIT! I was thrilled. I came up with huge bags full. She didn't feel like counting it all up and told me $25 for all of it. I wasn't sure if I had 100 outfits or not, but I knew I had more than enough to make it worth $25. Some of the outfits alone cost more than that new. When I got home and washed everything, I packed everything up in plastic storage totes since I was just barely pregnant. I ended up filling up THREE of those totes. I was amazed and so thrilled with my purchases!

My second favorite was a Wizard of Oz hardback book that was around 50 years old and a couple of other very old hardback books in good condition. I paid a quarter for each of them, listed them on ebay separately, and made around $20 on each of them.

I guess my best find has been more of a personal one. Last weekend I found a wicker loveseat in excellent condition for $30, not sure how much these run new. It looks great on my front porch with the two pillows she sold me for $.25 each.

I've sure gotten a lot of great deals too. One of my best deals was a brand new in the box Precious Moments figurine (I collect) for .25 CENTS!! The sticker just said 25, no decimal, no cents sign, no nothing and I asked (assuming it was twenty five dollars) and she said twenty five cents. I was sooooo happy!

Another of my great deals and purchases I was so thrilled over was at a sale I was not even planning on stopping at. I was mapping out the sales that were in the paper and following them in hubby's street map book when I found a sale that wasn't even advertised. When I got out of the car they said "we have lots of girl's clothes (seeing my daughter)" They were all just tossed on tarps on the ground. I was like oh yeah? how much? she said "ohhh, .50 an outfit" There was tons of gap, carter's, land's end, etc. new keds and nike sneakers. I got a box full, a trash bag full and some other stuff for $20! I was thrilled!

I have gotten lots of other good deals, I just love garage sales!

I bought 3 Maxfield Parrish art prints for $2.00 each and sold them on ebay for over $500.00. That was my best find yet.

I found 4 JCPenney valances, new in the packages for $1 each, they were marked $40! We just moved into a new house and have no curtains, so while it isn't the best find ever, it was best for right now and what i really needed!

Best find this year has to be the Brand new Fisher Price slide I picked up for the kids. We had a smaller one that the screws were broke on it, and the kids were all getting to big for it so we sold it in our lawn sale actually...the kids had a fit though! The very next weekend, the very first sale we stopped at they had the same kind of slide, except a much bigger one, and only wanted $3 for it! I was soo happy! I promised the kids we would get one by the end of summer even if I had to pay full price.

My favorite thing that I have found at a yard sale is my antique school desk ( the kind that has the hole on the top for the ink well to fit in) for $2.00
