Thanks, my dryer caught on fire last year! The lint was collected inside and made a flash fire - burnt up the wiring and everything.

Quickest way to check the dryer vent is to go outside and hold your hand in front of the vent when the dryer is on. You'll be able to tell if it's blowing strong or weak. If you have a short vent, the likelihood of it becoming clogged is less than if you have a long vent. We have a long vent and I go out and pull the louver cover off the end of the vent and clean out the lint. My dad has a long pole with a brush on the end that we use once or twice a year to clean further up in the vent. It also helps to check the dryer filter and keep it cleaned regularly. A good way to test the filter is to see if water can drip through the screen. If water cannot drip through what you think is a clean filter, the filter needs to be cleaned at the sink with a stiff brush.
Something else we noticed when I got a new dryer in January. The new dryer blows stronger. I'm not sure if it was just an age related issue, the change from natural gas to electric or what it was. I did not change brands. The old one was 13 yrs old

cleaning the lint trap after each use, plus checking the vent a couple times a year, and you wouldn't have to worry about a fire. most of the buildup is in the lint trap. having a fire occur is just plain negligence.

Even if you are on top of things you can have a dryer fire !

Our neighbor had one last year because the owner didn't have the vent cleaned often enough, they had no way to know about it or prevent this since they were renters.
Our dryer vents are over 20 feet long, go up inside the wall, inside a bedroom ceiling and vent to a roof area. Damn stupid if you ask me! (the length and placement of the dryer vents that is!)

Plus, I really don't enjoy paying someone $100 or so to get the *&^% thing cleaned every year!
