Carmel Apples

I have always wanted to make these at home, so since the carmels were on sale, and there was a coupon for 55cents off, which made the bag nearly free, I brought a bag and I am going to make some over the weekend. Now I have a a few questions for those of you who may have experience making these.. which type of apples are best (I like all apples, but I am bringing some of these into work and want them to be a hit) second, after the carmel is on, what can I roll them in to make them look nice, besides nuts, as some people at work are allergic. Thanks in advance for any tips

I really like caramel apples out of granny smith apples or the honeycrisp ones that are out now. It sounds weird, but the tangy taste of the apple with the sweet taste of the caramel are so good together.

I have no advice on making them, I've never made them out of real melted caramel, I used to use the wrapple stuff - the flat thing you just folded around the apple, them melt on. Then, we just started melting a bowl of caramel and dip the slices in. I'm think if I make them they'll go to waste versus just doing it one at a time.

I like Granny Smith/Honeycrisp or Gala. Pears (Anjous/Bartlet) are good too, just be sure that they are
soft enough to eat, but not too soft because they will split.

For rolling/dipping use lightly toasted coconut, mini dark/white chocolate chips, candy corn, mini M&M’s,
chocolate covered raisins or mini marshmallows. You can also drizzle melted dark/white chocolate over
the caramel after it sets, and then let the chocolate set. HTH

Forgot to add...Chopsticks can be used instead of Popsicle sticks.
