My favorite is homemade. I make one batch per year, usually between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Just my youngest dd and I like it. I like rum & bourbon, but I don't like it in eggnog, so I omit it. Eggnog 6 beaten eggs 2 cups milk (I use skim) 1/3 c. sugar 2-4 TBSP light rum 2-4 TBSP bourbon 1 TSP vanilla 1 c. whipping cream 2 TBSP sugar Ground nutmeg In a large heavy saucepan, mix eggs, milk, and 1/3 c. sugar. Cook and stir over medium heat till mixture coats spoon. (I hate this step - I heat it to about 150-160 degrees - you have to be careful because don't want to scramble the eggs - I have done that before and it's gross!) Remove from heat. Cool quickly by placing pan in a sink or bowl of ice water and stirring 1-2 minutes. Stir in rum, bourbon and vanilla. Chill 4-24 hours. At serving time, in a bowl whip cream and 2 TBSP sugar till soft peaks form. Transfer chilled egg mixture to a punch bowl. Fold in whipped cream mixture. Serve at once. Sprinkle each serving with nutmeg. Makes about 10 4-oz servings. Enjoy! Lisa
