Iso cooked choc icing recipe

This is at least 75 years old but i can not find my deceased mil's recipe from her mom for a choc frosting ya cooked on the stove. I don't remember if it was put on a cooled cake or a hot one outta the oven. It is not the same recipe as the one for a texas sheet cake. Any recipes ya cook on the stove for this choc icing would be much appreciated. Tia

I don't know if this is what you are looking for or not, but it is really good and fudgey!

Boil for 1 minute: 1 1/2 c. sugar, 6 Tablespoons butter, 6 Tablespoons milk. Beat in 6 oz. choc chips until melted.

Did you google it? I'm curious it's been many many years since I saw someone cooking frosting.

That is my DHs grandma's recipe that she used to put on her brownies (while they were still hot)! I still make them occassionally.

I’ve had this recipe for several years but have never tried it.

2 cups granulated sugar
1 stick unsalted butter
½ cup Hershey's cocoa powder
½ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 thin cake layers

In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, combine the sugar, butter, cocoa, and milk.
Mix well. Bring to a boil and boil for 1-1½ minutes (or until the sugar is dissolved).
Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla.

Punch holes into warm cake layers. Place the first layer on a cake plate and pour some
of the icing over the top. Continue with the remaining three layers, saving a little extra
icing for the top layer. Let the cake cool completely before slicing.

Thanks but neither of those recipes are what i'm looking for. I remember it took corn starch, margarine or butter, vanilla & cocoa. I can't remember what else for sure. I think it took regular sugar & not 10x sugar. I can't believe i've lost the recipe....i've had it for at least 30 years. Yes i did google it.

maybe this one-

Richmond Chocolate Frosting
This frosts two layers or a 13/9. If frosting a 3-layer cake, than double the recipe and eat the extra!

1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, grated (this is important! grate the chocolate on a microplane or on the fine side of the box grater)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup boiling water
3 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla

On the stovetop in a heavy saucepan: Mix sugar and cornstarch; add chocolate and salt. Add boiling water and cook until mixture thickens. Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla. Spread on the cake while the frosting is still hot for a glossy frosting which remains soft and smooth.

I also haven't run into another chocolate icing recipe like this, but I'm sure versions must exist. If you use a recipe like this, let me know where you got it!

This makes a dark (nearly black) cooked-frosting-textured icing that is nothing at all like a buttercream. It's delicious, but don't try to do any kind of decorating with it. I've found this to be slightly more popular with "grownups" than with kids, as small children may find this a touch too strong-flavored for them if they aren't used to a bittersweet chocolate flavor.
