Question Help - sweet potato recipe

I've never made sweet potatoes.

My mother-in-law makes the best side dish and I know it has canned sweet potatoes, brown sugar and marshmallows in it.

I REALLY don't want to ask her for her recipe so I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

I'm hoping it's as simple as dumping a couple of cans of sweet potatoes in a casserole dish, sprinkling some brown sugar on them and adding marshmallows on top.

But how long would I bake it and at what temperature.

Thanks for any suggestions

You got it, that's really all it is...sweet potatoes, brown sugar (I do melt some butter and add the brown sugar to it, then dump over the sweet potatoes) and marshmallows. I usually bake mine at 350* - 375* for maybe 25 minutes or so. Just till it's bubbling.

The canned ones are already cooked. There are often some strings on the very ends and I always pull them out. They come out easy. I also drain some of the liquid off in a cup. I do the same as Janenga and add brown suger , some butter and marshmellows and bake . They will get a carmel like sauce.
You can add more liquid if you want them to have a thinner sauce. I like mine thicker.

Thanks so much for the responses.

I didn't realize that the canned sweet potatoes were already cooked.

Do I put the marshmallows on before baking for 25 minutes? (I would think they would totally "melt" away immediately).

I have added them early and they do melt and it just makes a sweet sauce. You don't "see" them when you serve them.

If you want them to stay looking like marshmellow' s you add them right before they are finished.
I have done it both ways and both taste good.
