We did steaks, baked potatoes and corn-on-the-cob on the grill. I also baked a slab blueberry pie today so we had that for dessert and the kids roasted marshmallows over the coals on the grill.

We shoveled 4 yards of mulch today along with a bunch of household projects. I wasn't in the mood to cook, so I went and bought some hamburger & salmon fillets to grill, a bagged caesar salad & premade baked beans. Lisa

aahhh speaking of painting we started priming my DD room today and the guy at HD said to use the Kilz Original which is oil based NEVER NEVER again. We got so sick from the smell. Plus he said it covers great, it cover like crud!! Back to painting tomorrow since we didn't get much done. I was actually seeing things. I hope most of the smell goes out tonight, but I doubt it!. I am leaving her window open tonight. Good thing she is leaving for FL again on Tuesday because there would be no way she could hang in there, I made grilled chicken and shrimp |

| It's just regular pie that is baked in a jelly roll pan instead of a traditional pie plate. So it's a big rectangular pie instead of a round one. I usually make them for parties because they serve more than a traditional pie but I made this one just for us because it's a recipe I hadn't tried yet (from the Martha Stewart Baking Handbook) and I wanted to test it out.

Hey 1brattygirl, it was yummy! I've been trying out different pie recipes this summer -- DH said this was the best so far! Slab Pie Ingredients Makes one 15-by-10-inch pie All-purpose flour, for dusting Slab Pie Pate Brisee (recipe below) 2 1/2 pounds fresh mixed berries, such as blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries (about 6 cups) 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar 1/4 cup cornstarch Juice of 1/2 lemon (about 1 tablespoon) 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons heavy cream 1/4 cup sanding sugar Directions Preheat oven to 375 degrees. On a lightly floured surface, roll out larger piece of dough to an 18-by-13-inch rectangle. Fit into a 15-by-10-inch rimmed baking sheet, pressing into corners (pastry will hang over sides). Chill while assembling filling. In a large bowl, stir together berries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and salt. Spread mixture over chilled pie shell. On a lightly floured surface, roll out remaining piece of dough to a 16-by-11-inch rectangle; drape over filling. Fold edge of bottom dough over top dough. Pinch edges to seal. Prick top dough all over with a fork. Brush entire surface of pie with cream, and sprinkle with sanding sugar. Bake until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbling, 40 to 55 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack, and let pie cool until it is just warm to the touch, about 45 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature, cut into 12 pieces. Slab pie is best eaten the same day it is baked, but it can be kept at room temperature, loosely covered with plastic wrap, for up to 2 days. First published: May 2006 Slab Pie Pate Brisee Ingredients Makes one 12-by-16-inch rectangle 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons coarse salt 1 teaspoon sugar 2 sticks (8 ounces) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water Directions Process flour, salt, and sugar in a food processor until combined. Add butter. Process until mixture resembles coarse meal, about 10 seconds. With machine running, add ice water in a slow, steady stream just until dough comes together. (Do not process more than 30 seconds.) Turn dough out onto a piece of plastic wrap. Flatten dough, and shape into a rectangle. Wrap in plastic. Refrigerate at least 1 hour (or overnight), or freeze up to 1 month.
