Funny. Every year FIL makes a big fuss over ordering his NEVER BEEN FROZEN turkey. It's way more expensive and he thinks it's so much better. Every year I buy the off brand 'Best Choice' frozen turkey that's on sale. Honestly I've tried and I can't tell a difference - but I'd never tell FIL that! Lisa

I have to agree with you, Lisa. My parents always bought a Butterball for Thanksgiving. I always buy whatever is on sale (Jenny-O, Norbest, or even some off-name). I really can't tell the difference. I do think Jenny-O's are very good, but I also think any of the other brands are good too. And I have tried fresh vs. frozen and really can't tell the difference. Maybe my tastebuds just don't work the way other people's do!

Well I don't want to gross anyone out here but my turkey comes straight from the farm. Good friends of ours own several turkey houses and when they load out, I get fresh turkey breasts and turkey legs/thighs from the turkeys that have heart attacks. Baking a turkey breast is so much easier than the whole bird and for the holidays my mom and I just bake several of them. So we may not have shopping malls out here in the country but we do have fresh turkey breasts! I freeze the breasts until I need them.

My favorite is the one on sale. My MIL only believes in Butterball, but DH and I don't think it is any better at all, and always opt for the sale turkey. This year we have a Shady Brook Farms, 19.35 lbs. 48 cents per pound and I also used a $1 off coupon on it.

Dh was with me yesterday when I was buying our turkey. I wanted one around 12 pounds but the smallest I could find was 14 pounds. The brand I wanted was Best Choice for 77 cents a pound. He holds up a Butterballll for $1.09/pound. I'm like no, look over here. It was funny. I always buy one for Thanksgiving and then another for later. I'd like to find a 10 pounder for later, but doubt I'll have much luck. Lisa
