Question Have you tried the Amazon Kindle?

What do you think about it? Is it as pleasant as holding a paperback book in your hands and savoring it? Or is it bulky, cumbersome?

I was considering getting one for mom, but I don't know if she'd like it. What do you book lovers think?

I don't have one, I saw part of the show Oprah did on it, but not the whole show. I am sure there are advantages, but I don't THINK I would enjoy it as much as I do curling up with a real book in my hand. I think there was a discussion about them here on the board not long ago, but it might have been on another board.

I know that Amazon upgraded it, came out with a Kindle 2...something like that. I just don't know how it would FEEL to hold this stiff thing in the hands--you know how a book kind of bends? I wish I knew someone who had one, so mom and I could check it out.

Thanks, SawSadSam, I'll search for that post.

Even a paperback book has a smell about it.....I would miss that. But it would be so cool to download a book on a whim, anywhere!

The idea I like is being able to take 50 books and not having to rent a trailer to carry them! I would love to see one and hold it and check it out. But buying one...quite frankly I'll wait a while until they get the glitches out and more people have them.

I love mine

I got one as a gift from my dh. Didn't think i would like it until I started using it. I put mine in a plastic ziplog baggie to take to the beach. Works great. Almost any book is available immediately. it is very light and thin, they sell covers and "skins". I thought i would miss the book part of reading, but frankly, the convenience outweighs that.

My co-worker brought in hers. She loves it and says it is easier to deal with because you can change the font and flip the page without having to move your wrist a lot.

I totally enjoy my Kindle 2. The only disadvantage I find is that you cannot share your books. Once you purchase it, you can download it only to your kindle.
