Question Aldi's

Not certain if this is where this question belongs or not; hopefully mods will move it to correct forum if necessary.

I noticed today a sign that an Aldi's is going into a strip mall near me.

I don't know of any other Aldi's in this area (Dallas-Ft. Worth TX)

I assume it's a grocery store? any insights to shopping there?

TIA

Yes, Aldi's is a grocery store. They carry non-name brand items. Some are pretty good. You can find good deals there. I shop there for my fruits/veggies/can goods. Most stuff I dont mind non-name brand food.

I love shopping at Aldi. Their prices are very good at my stores. They do have off brand named items. I have tried other off brands in stores and Aldi's taste closer to the brand named ones. They have a website: Welcome to ALDI

For many things, I feel like I can get better deals by combining sales and coupons on name-brand products. However, I regularly stop by Aldi's to pick up a few things. I usually buy taco seasoning there. They have a good price on string cheese when I haven't been able to find it on sale for a while. I buy ground turkey for $2.49/lb. Sometimes their milk is the cheapest price that week. I suggest taking a spin around the store when it opens to get a feel for what they have and how the prices compare to other local stores.

I go to Aldi when I just have to have German chocolate - their sweets are wonderful and inexpensive.

Yes, you need a quarter, but you'll get it back when you return the cart.

Also, they don't take checks or credit cards. You'll need cash or a debit card. Unfortunately, my bank charges me a dollar to use my debit card anywhere other than their ATM. So I rarely go to Aldi, simply because I don't carry much cash with me (and I'd have no idea how much I was going to spend).

Our Aldi's (Nashville) have had eggs for 49 cents for a dozen for the last few weeks. Some stores have medium size, but most have been large. (Kind of ticked me off: in the poorer area where I work, the eggs were medium, but the more affluent area where my parents live: large eggs. I guess that's the way it works, though- if you can't afford to go out and compare prices, you are stuck paying what they charge. BUT, it is still a very good price for a dozen eggs.)

I LOVE their BIG shopping bags. They are much sturdier than regular grocery reusable bags- the handles have grommets. I think I paid $1.99 for one, but I use them for my Sam's shopping- I can lug lots of INDUSTRIAL size packages up the steps in one of those bags.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE when they have "Asian foods" week- Chinese New Year and whatever- the jarred baby corn is my favorite thing to put on a salad, and the Aldi price is 99 cents a jar. They don't always have it, though- so I stock up when they do the Asian food week. I don't like their cheese, but that's a personal preference- I actually prefer Kroger brand to Kraft!

My mom is addicted to the coconut popsicles (real fruit, not "flavored" pops- maybe it is pina colada)- They are very good and comparable to the real fruit pops I have had elsewhere. No one can beat FrozFruit- which I cannot find ANYWHERE- but these are very good and reasonably priced for their type.

I have to agree with the chocolate post. I have a friend who is from Germany (where Aldi originates), and she buys candies here all the time.

They also have this nutty sunflower bread that is to die for. It is very dense and
fiber-full, and I love it for breakfast toast.

SO- enjoy your new Aldi!
