I have a tracfone for my kids to use when they go out (kids are 12 & 11) I just get a 60minutes card every 3 months it cost $20 so I only spend about $80 a year and I get lots of minutes. My phone is a double minutes phone and I always use a code that gives you bonus minutes. So for my $20 I got 180 minutes. The phone has over 300 minutes on it now the kids dont really use it, its only for emergencies. Here is a good website for tracfone codes Free Tracfone Minutes with Bonus Codes « Pbushx2’s Weblog Renee |

We have net10 phones. NET10 | Prepaid Cell Phone. You can buy the phones through their website, but you can also find them at discount stores like Kmart and Walmart. When you buy the phone, you usually get 300 minutes with the price. We buy 300-minute cards/2-months for $31.80 (with tax), and I program reminders into my e-mail so a window pops up to remind me to renew. They have lesser cards you can buy on line at the website, but you can also find cards at Weis/Mr. Z's and other stores. Our phones came with nice features: Camera, text messaging, some international calling available (depends on the country and uses more minutes for those obviously), calculator, voice mail, etc. If you let the time expire, you have to do something extra to get it going again; I can't remember what it is. Minutes do stack, so we use mine for all our long distance calling plus to carry in my purse for traveling.

I have seen the $20 cards on the website. Haven't seen them in stores...I could have sworn there was a $10 option too on the website, but now I can't find it. Oh, you can customize your ring tones and screen saver - many to choose from, but downloading each will subtract from your minutes.

My phone is from cheapphonecards.com They charge 10 cents a day which is about $3.00 and month and about 10cents a minute. You only need to use it 1 minute during a 90 day period to keep the phone active. ( I think) I buy a $10 card and it lasts me more than a month. The $3 a month fee is just taken out of the card. This is only an online store and I have used them for at least 3 years. Their phones are about $25. |
