Please help-In need if Hostess gifts-cheap

I am trying to help my DSIL with her sons upcoming Bar Mitzvah. People will be hosted for the weekend and we need about 15 hostess gifts. We would like to spend about $5 but would love it to look like $12-$15. Any ideas?
TIA
Debra

She might try the bargain section of Barnes and Nobel for books that would benefit the entire household, like a reference book or a cookbook. Just tell her to watch hardcover/paperback as some people would rather give hard cover as gifts. I think there are several in there for under $5.00, though not sure if she can get a break on shipping. If her budget goes up to $10 a hostess, she could add a couple of mugs from the dollar store filled with a kind of candy (you can get a box of caramel nips for about 1.00 that fill most mugs to brimming) or she could buy a couple of wooden spoons and a wisk and tie the utensils and the book up with rafia for a nice presentation.

Another idea is to have her son actually make something for them. He can take a photo, for instance, and his mother can print it off. Then they can hunt for bargain frames at a craft store or he can decorate them himself. This can be his way of thanking them for supporting his special day.

I was going to suggest Amazon or Overstock and check the clearance sections for deeply discounted items. Maybe you can have two or three different items so everybody doesn't get the same one.

TJ Max and Marshalls often have nice things available, as does the Christmas Tree Shops.
