Free Juicy Fruit gum came today - BEWARE is has aspartame.

Man, I HATE when companies do this.... the gum is not sugar-free yet they feel the need to add aspartame (nutrasweet). For those of us who are sensitive to aspartame - this is real problematic.

I ended up with a whopper of a headache today and couldn't figure out why - then I realized I tried the new gum. Read the package and sure enough - aspartame.

For those of you who suffer from frequent migraines, you might want to eliminate all aspartame from your diet... works for me.

I am not sensitive to aspartame, but I prefer to consume "real" sugars. Kind of disappointed that Juicy Fruit has done this.

I am sensitive and this could have been a real problem , Thanks for the warning.

I have also found that some of the nice flavored coffees add it too.

Why do companies do this when so many people are sensitive or are trying to avoid them for health reasons. I never would have thought to look. It makes me mad too.

Thanks again.

OP,
Thanks for the warning! You also might want to avoid food products made with MSG. I know that when I eliminated MSG from our diets, it really cut back the frequency and severity of headaches and migraines I was having.

Angry

I discovered the same thing a few months ago. What makes me so mad about it is they feel no need to label the package accordingly. I purposely avoid anything with aspartame in it for myself or my children because it is known to cause cancer. If I am going to consume a known cancer causing agent, I want to know it and not have it hidden in the ingredient list of the product. I was actually thinking about taking this issue up with the makers of Juicy Fruit. Someone needs to keep these companies accountable.

Just mtcw, but if it is listed in the ingredients, then it is labeled properly. I hate that it gave you a headache - those are no fun! I did not know it was in the product either, but never purchase it. I do read ingredients, however, in all products I purchase because my children cannot have sugar.
Sugar is hidden in lots of food, but does not have CONTAINS SUGAR plastered across the package. I suppose they leave it up to the consumers to read the legally mandated nutritional content. Unclear sometimes. You would be surprised how many "sugar-free" products contain corn syrup!

Hope you feel better soon

I would read the ingredients if I could. Have you ever triedto read the ingredients on gum. Its so small and not very clearly printed its just about impossible.

I called Wrigley to let them know I am disappointed with this change. The girl there was very gracious to my feedback and also told me DoubleMint gum also has aspartame. If you guys want to provide feedback to Wrigley you can either email them from the "Contact" option on their website, www.wrigley.com or you can call them at 800-824-9681.

Yes, thank you for posting this. I have been noticing Aspartame alot lately in foods and beverages where it has never appeared before. There have been many studies and much research done on this ingredient and it has been shown to cause brain tumours, multiple sclerosis, and cancer. Why is this ingredient, Aspartame, which is so dangerous being freely added to foods and beverages when this is a well-known fact? I was shocked to find the other day that when I looked at most of the pops on the shelfs aspartame was now an ingredient and this included both diet and non-diet sodas. Going along with the post above since I stopped drinking pop with aspartame which I have done for decades my health has improved tremendously. Why isn't the public being warned?

They are putting it in big red now too. They still put sugar in there, but added the artificial crap as well...I would rather have a bit of sugar than some lab made chemical sweetener, that no one knows what consuming it for 10 years might do....And the public isnt being warned because its bad for big business. Using chemical sweeteners and chemically altered corn syrup (high fructose) is cheaper than sugar products. This allows big business to keep the higher profit, and they dont give a crap about public health.
